Recently Thairath Entertainment visited Rocky Surabodin at his home, where father Rocky revealed the adorable side of his son, little Goody, aged 3, Rocky's son, showing just how cute he is. It's no surprise why the father is so enamored, as the little boy often runs over to say 'I love you' unexpectedly.
Rocky said, "On weekdays, I spend a lot of time with my son because my wife has to wake up early for work and doesn't get home until around 7 p.m. I host a show in the morning and come back in the afternoon to be with my son. When school is in session, I am the one who picks him up from school."
His son says he doesn't want his father to go to work and wishes he could stay home. Rocky shared, "Every time I leave for work, he gets a bit dramatic saying he doesn't want me to go and wants me to stay home with him. I tell him that I have to work and earn money. It’s a goal — actually, it’s my goal too. I haven’t traveled abroad in years due to financial troubles and debt. I tell him that once I have money, I’ll take him to Japan to see Thomas the Tank Engine’s railway because he loves Thomas so much."
How has life changed since having a child?
"Honestly, I didn’t want a baby before because I wasn’t sure I could take good care of him given the economic and social conditions. At that time, I told myself that if I were going to have a child, it would be this year; if not, I would get sterilized. We decided that, and then he came unexpectedly during a difficult time in my life. I was very sad for myself but not because of the child — I was sad that I wasn’t prepared to support him properly. I didn’t want my child to be spoiled but also didn’t want him to suffer so much. At first, I wondered if I could manage raising him, but now we’re very close."
My wife helps take care of him but works daytime hours, so people don’t see her much. At night, she puts the child to bed, while I do live sales. His mother helps take him upstairs to sleep so I can work properly. I must say, Chen Thana is my work idol."
Do grandmother and uncles help take care of your child?
"They come regularly because now my mother and siblings have all moved to the neighborhood near me. In the afternoons, grandmother drops by unexpectedly without telling me, parks her car, and visits the grandchild. The uncles do the same; sometimes after I finish hosting my show at noon, I come home to find an uncle feeding my son. My house is like the family center — at New Year or Songkran, everyone gathers before heading out to celebrate."
Has having a child fulfilled your life?
"It has. Before, I never thought having a child would be this good. I heard people say it’s exhausting, but it's an exhaustion mixed with happiness. Somehow, I’m willing to trade for it. Sometimes he comes over to tell me he loves me. He’s cute. I never imagined having a child like this. He’s not too well-behaved but not so unruly that we can’t communicate."
With such a cute grandchild, how does the grandfather feel?
"I haven’t seen him in a long time. His name was given by his grandfather. We haven’t met for many years and I don’t have his phone number. As I said before, he’s cut ties with everything. But when the child was born, he was still around, buying gifts, rings, gold, and money. Those remain good memories. I choose to remember the good family moments and I’m happy with that."
How do you handle yourself when facing drama or news?
"I don’t watch the news at all. Honestly, I focus only on Chen Thana. I often see him in live streams and like to greet him. He tells me to keep fighting and says he’s seen the news. I believe one day we will work together. I clearly see my life goals. There will be drama and many problems along the way, but I still have debts to pay — utilities, food for my child continue as usual. So I focus clearly on what I must do and ignore everything else."
"I really don’t know about the latest news. I took my son on a trip and returned to Bangkok. My friends don’t bother me because they know what I focus on. I want to clear my debts as fast as possible, take my son to Japan, take my mother to England, to places she once visited. Especially the debts and negative aspects of life — once I clear them all, I can start building a new life for my son."
Many worry about your heavy workload and whether your debts have decreased?
"I’d say I’m managing better now. When we interviewed 2-3 years ago, I didn’t even know what to eat. I was cheated and the company’s partners ran away leaving debts, which I had to take responsibility for. That means the money I had was basically gone. It’s not that I didn’t save; I’m a planner. But when problems hit, you can’t predict it. Suddenly it happens. I’m grateful for everyone’s support, not just about the drama but in life and working to earn money."
Many are concerned and curious if Rocky will change his surname to put an end to this?
"Honestly, I don’t care. My life goes on as usual. I just live my life and continue normally. I don’t care what people say. Thanks to everyone who cares and shows concern. I have no complaints, it’s okay. I just wake up and keep fighting, taking care of my son, my family, siblings, and my mother. That’s all. I don’t think about anything else. I live the same life. Everything grows and strengthens because I look ahead and continue living as usual. That’s it."
