The case of a former famous monk preacher quietly leaving the monkhood amid a scandal involving inappropriate behavior has attracted much public attention. Television host Moddam Kotchapha came under close scrutiny because photos of him with this former monk appeared widely on social media.
Moddam opened up that he has known this former monk since childhood, even before the monk was ordained. Being interested in spiritual matters and fortune-telling, they called each other “mother” and “daughter.” Moddam holds faith in this former monk, who was a disciple of the revered Luang Pu Hong, whom he respects deeply. Over time, he participated in significant charitable acts with the monk, such as sending money to build volunteer kitchens along the border. Noticing the monk’s residence was hot and the monk was overweight, Moddam also helped install air conditioning for his comfort during meditation.
Moddam insisted his actions were motivated by pure intentions and that he was unaware of the misconduct referred to as “I am a gourd” in the news.
