Music Industry Mourns: David Eng, Guitarist of Ploy Band, Passes Away from Nasopharyngeal Cancer

The Thai music scene has faced sorrow once again as David Eng the guitarist of Ploy, a renowned band from the 1980s and 1990s, passed away from nasopharyngeal cancer on the afternoon of 15 May 2026. His funeral was held at Mae Saluang Temple in Mae Rim District, Chiang Mai Province, amid deep grief from family members and fans who learned of the news.

The official Facebook page of Grand Ex Band posted the sad news: “RIP / "David Eng" guitarist of Ploy. Just moments ago, Tam Somprasong’s Facebook timeline reported that David Eng, guitarist of Ploy, passed away this afternoon (15 May). His body is currently at Mae Saluang Temple in Mae Rim District, Chiang Mai Province. The cause of death was nasopharyngeal cancer, stemming from a brain aneurysm in 2018. The admin expresses deepest condolences to David Eng’s family.”

P.S. The admin has informed P’Jae Danupol Kaewkarn, the mastermind behind Ploy’s success and its solo band back-up artist, about this news.”

Meanwhile, Tam Somprasong’s Facebook posted: “Sharing news with fellow musicians, please help spread the word... David Eng, guitarist of Ploy, passed away this afternoon... His body is now at Mae Saluang Temple in Mae Rim District, Chiang Mai Province. #RestInEternalPeace #TamSomprasong” Along with this, he shared the funeral schedule stating that the Buddhist rites will be held at Mae Saluang Temple on 16-17 May 2026 at 7:00 PM, and the cremation ceremony will take place on 18 May 2026 at 1:00 PM.
