The news has brought great sorrow to the comedy community with the peaceful passing of "Sang Dok Sadao" the former comedian. Recently, Ple Napatt, daughter of the veteran comedian "Deaw Dok Sadao," opened up after attending the funeral, revealing the heartbreaking truth that, to this day, they must keep the news of her father's close friend’s death strictly from him.
Ple explained that as soon as they learned of Sang Dok Sadao's passing, they had to hide it from her father at all costs because the two had been close for nearly 30 years. Even she is deeply saddened, and if Deaw found out, she believes he would be devastated, which could worsen his illness.
"One of Sang's close friends told me, ‘Dad has passed away.’ We started worrying about how to keep Dad from seeing the news. Even we are so heartbroken; Dad was much closer, having spent decades together. He would be deeply hurt. So, we’re doing our best. Today at the funeral, we told Dad we were attending a relative of a friend's ceremony and arranged for someone to keep him company."
When did Deaw and Sang first meet?
"Sang and Dad have known each other for almost 30 years. Back then, I was still in university when they met and grew close because Sang was still living at home. They became close until Dad started his own family, and they saw each other less. They reconnected more when Dad became ill. Sang even helped Dad set up Facebook. Honestly, Sang has done so much for us; he watched over Dad’s garden with great kindness. We couldn’t have asked anyone else to do that. Sang and his wife are wonderful and kind—never a complaint and always good to us."
Did Sang take care of the garden for Deaw?
"Yes, for a very long time—about 10 years. He stayed at the garden, growing limes and bringing them to us. Both Sang and his wife handled everything."
Is the land where Sang stayed and took care of the garden owned by Deaw?
"Yes, it’s like Dad entrusted it to him to watch over. Sang had his own home but still helped out because he cared deeply for Dad. That’s why I say Dad must have loved him a lot. So, we must keep this from Dad as much as possible and not let him know."
Who will take care of the garden going forward?
"That needs to be decided by my older brother, who manages everything, since no one else is currently tending it. Sang’s wife is also unable to do it now."
When was the last time you spoke with Sang?
"On May 11. We haven’t talked since; I spoke with his daughter instead, who said her father was starting to decline. I advised her to stay strong because I’ve been through this before. She told me, ‘Dad is fighting,’ which gave me hope. But just two or three days later, she said he was no longer doing well. I want to send my support to Sang’s children and wife. Sang and his wife Kae are a lovely couple. No matter how sad or difficult things get, they love each other and have been together a long time."
