New Move! DJ Nui Thanawat Registers His Own Laughing Voice Trademark

He is known as a beloved DJ and host among fans. Nui Thanawat Prasitsomphon or DJ Nui is well recognized by fans of Korean artists, having hosted many events and become a familiar face. One of DJ Nui's most distinctive traits is his laughter, which naturally makes listeners laugh or smile along with his genuine personality.

Most recently, on 21 May 2026, Oramon Saptaweetham, Director-General of the Department of Intellectual Property, announced that DJ Nui Thanawat has applied to register his unique laughter as a sound trademark in Thailand with the Department of Intellectual Property. The application is currently under review. This represents a new approach to trademark protection that is becoming increasingly important today.

Additionally, statistics on sound trademark registrations in Thailand, protected under the Trademark Act B.E. 2534 (amended by the 2nd Act B.E. 2543 and 3rd Act B.E. 2559), reveal that there are currently 494 applications, with 114 successfully registered and 138 still under consideration.

At present, Thai businesses and celebrities from various fields are emphasizing the use of sound to create brand recognition and enhance brand value. Internationally, global artist Taylor Swift has registered two sound trademarks: the phrase “Hey, it's Taylor Swift” from an Amazon Music album promotion and “Hey, it's Taylor” from a Spotify album promo clip.

This highlights clearly that "sound" is an intellectual property asset of value requiring protection. In an era where AI can convincingly imitate or generate realistic voices, protection is necessary to prevent fraudsters from impersonating individuals, causing confusion, deception, and potential scams, as well as unauthorized commercial use.
