Tae Kantana Opens Up About Managing a Large Family Business and Resolving Conflicts

One of Thailand's largest content-producing families, with many heirs and relatives involved in management, is the family of Kantana Company. Recently, Tae Piyarat Kanjaruek or Tae Kantana, the eldest grandson of the family, opened up about the behind-the-scenes of working together with the Kanjaruek family and how they manage relationships to avoid problems. Tae revealed that

“Problems happen all the time. We sometimes sulk or argue, but our family’s emotional center is grandmother and father. We were raised to always stay united. Even on days when someone feels discouraged or tired, we still see each other at home.

That’s the strength of the Kanjaruek family—we never abandon each other, never fight to the point of serious division. That has never happened, and I hope it never will. As the eldest grandson, I have made a personal vow that if problems ever got that severe, I would step aside as the easier and more appropriate choice. But that has never happened. We don’t know what future generations or years ahead may bring, because doing good is becoming increasingly difficult, but our family remains committed to doing good.”

“We are media communicators by blood, instilled with a sense of how to act. We feel that this is our family’s vow to keep working hard, even though doing good is harder nowadays.”

Regarding other social issues currently occurring?

“We don’t claim to fully understand anyone because everyone faces different problems. I have family issues too. The best thing today is to listen, be kind, encourage each other, and show lots of compassion. Forgive what can be forgiven, but for what goes too far, let the legal process handle it. Our country has a good and trustworthy system. Whoever is right or wrong can clarify and seek justice. If matters cannot be resolved privately, there is still a reliable system to rely on.”

Tae also strongly believes in the importance of the family institution as the foundation of everything. For LGBTQ+ people, family acceptance is crucial because growing up with acceptance matters a lot. Some people don’t receive rights or acceptance from the start, which creates many problems.

“Today, we talk about our festival and invite people to watch films and exchange views here, so future generations can see diverse perspectives and dimensions. We now have marriage equality and some rights we've fought for. How we preserve and pass these on to the future is vital.”

What encouragement do you want to give to those who may not be fortunate or lack a warm, complete family?

“Everyone faces different problems. Whether issues are small or large depends on age, environment, and many factors. What I try to do most in the content I produce is to encourage people. At least, my content helps relieve or make them feel better when they need a break. I consider that fulfilling my role as a media communicator.”
