Hum Jokmok Clarifies Funeral Speech Drama on Death: Says Not Ready to Go, Fully Booked Until 2030

Famous comedian Hum Jokmok has come forward to update fans on his life and work to ease their longing. Hum Jokmok or Hum Petchthai Wongkamlao recently revealed that his son Mix Pethai is about to officially become a film director with his first movie. He also shared about his generous love for his wife and clarified the controversy over his comments about death at Danny Sripinyo's funeral.

Is your son Mix going to be a director now?

"Yes, this is his first project and I am directing it with him. He has watched many films and wanted to try directing once. It's my project called 'Tiger Howls, Dragon Yawns,' an action fantasy comedy overall."

Did you invest a lot?

"Several million baht, (smiling) about ten baht coins. I broke the piggy bank, really broke it."

Is this a big expectation?

"I'm supporting him fully. He's getting married soon and earning money, but the coffee shop is still running. He manages it with his girlfriend. (So your son is raising his own dowry?) Ultimately, I'm still the father, so I have to follow tradition and formally ask for her hand."

Will filming start soon?

"Probably mid-next month. He's currently having meetings at the office. The lead actors will be newcomers. I will act too, playing the hero's father."

Fans joke that you do many things and are rich now?

"I don't really spend much. This 500 baht (who gave you this money?) My wife. (But she buys very expensive bags?) That's her wish, not mine. I love her so I buy for her. Seeing her happy makes me happy."

About when Nong M surprised you earlier?

"Just joking. We went to events together. She often finds work for me and gives me money frequently. I'm relying on her these days. (How is the market?) Yes, for Hum Food Fair. In a few days on the 1st, we will be in Nakhon Si Thammarat."

How is the sales period going?

"People need to eat, but don't sell too expensive. Keep it reasonable so people can afford it. (Will the 'half-half' government subsidy stimulate sales?) I don't know if M is in that program or not. I just sell normally, 70-80 baht, no more, prices people can afford."

Any words of encouragement for Thai people?

"Keep fighting. Don't spend on things you shouldn't. Save up for the future. The world is changing; we don't know when the straits and international waters will open."

But your wife wants to buy whatever she wants?

"I love her and let her buy, but don't forget my spicy fermented fish sauce. It's available in convenience stores everywhere. (Do you export it?) A little bit, but only to a few countries in small amounts. It's not yet a big industry."

At Danny's funeral, some criticized you for saying you would follow soon?

"I say that at almost every funeral, that I'll go soon. But right now I'm not available; it'll be a long wait. They took only that one phrase and ignored the rest. Isn't it ominous? If I were to change my luck, I'd have died already lying in the coffin, right? Clearly dead, lying in the coffin. But nothing happened."

How did you feel seeing the comments?

"I don't know. Sometimes people quote only 'I'll follow when I have time' but miss the part where I said I'm still busy now. People misunderstand. If you think it's an omen, then those who did the ritual of lying in a coffin—think about it, isn't that worse than me? But everyone thinks differently."

So you are still not ready to go?

"Not ready for a long time. Go ahead, Sang and Dok Sadao, but I have many movies to shoot, two next year, plus three series. In 2030, a foreign film from China contacted me. A long time yet, Sang, many things. Waiting for my grandchildren too; when they marry, there will be more grandchildren. Really a long time, Sang, Danny."

Do you have a goal for how long you want to live?

"You never know. Nobody knows. You can only say so much. Sometimes blood doesn't flow to the brain. Who can tell? Life is uncertain. Death is unavoidable. Fame is temporary. Goodness lasts. Even your body they will cremate."
