Previously, it became a widely discussed topic after Jenny from "Janyai Ifert Chodchuen" or Jenny Ratchanok revealed that she had tested positive for HPV strain 16. She then shared knowledge and information about HPV but was attacked and belittled by some netizens in the comments.
Recently, Yiw Chatmongkol Somkaew, Jenny’s husband, posted a strong message defending his wife, angrily responding to her critics. He cited statistics on infection rates that commonly occur in women and questioned those insulting his wife, writing:
“Women who have had sexual intercourse have about an 80-90% chance of contracting HPV at least once in their lives. Each year, there are approximately 5,200 to 8,000 new cervical cancer cases diagnosed. However, the body can clear the virus on its own, and not everyone infected will develop cancer.
In Thailand, tens of thousands of women contract HPV each year. You choose to insult my wife and belittle her—shame on you.”
Yiw also added beneath the post: “Jenny speaks because she wants to share knowledge, as many people don’t know that vaccination and HPV screening are necessary. If left unchecked, it can develop into cervical cancer, which is dangerous. Instead of praising her bravery in being a voice for millions, even some who criticize her might be infected themselves. Wait until you get cancer, then you’ll understand.”
Following this post, many netizens expressed agreement with Yiw, viewing HPV infection and cervical cancer as important medical issues all women should be aware of, and saying such topics should not be used to bully or attack others in society.
