She devoted herself to various duties for the benefit of the people, especially in law, justice processes, human rights protection, women’s empowerment, and providing opportunities for the underprivileged through projects such as 'Kumlangjai,' which aims to restore the quality of life for inmates and ex-convicts so they can rejoin society with dignity. Moreover, she played a vital role internationally in law and diplomacy, working with the United Nations and other organizations to promote rule of law, human rights, and international cooperation, bringing honor to Thailand on the global stage. She also continued charitable work through the 'Puen Pueng (Phak) Yam Yak' Foundation.”
Finally, Pat Powerpat, or Worayot Boonthongnum, shared his feelings after learning of her passing: “I feel deeply saddened. She contributed greatly to Thai people over many decades, as everyone knows. When we think of Princess Bajrakitiyabha, we remember law, justice, and her long-standing compassion for Thais. She worked very hard. One clear example I saw was her work with both female and male inmates. To my knowledge, her projects for inmates include the 'Kumlangjai' program, which she started while studying law.
It began at the Central Women's Prison, focusing on the welfare of mothers and children, especially mothers serving sentences who gave birth and cared for their children during trials. This was the starting point of her care for imprisoned mothers and children, expanding to women's prisons nationwide. I know the children from those early projects she personally held are now about 20 years old. For the mothers, she also provided capital for their livelihoods.
Her 'Kumlangjai' program is not only for women; it also extends to men's prisons across the country. Personally, while I may not have attended training sessions myself, close friends who were involved gave me insight into the program at Bang Kwang Prison. At that time, death row inmates were selected to participate in the 'Dirt to Merit' program, where they were trained in making Buddha images—from designing and sketching to crafting. The finished works were then donated to temples, communities, and hospitals.
I witnessed friends and seniors at Bang Kwang transform—they became calmer, more proud of themselves, and more confident in their abilities. She gave wonderful opportunities for inmates to change comprehensively, especially concerning legal knowledge and agreements to improve their quality of life. She worked tirelessly, advancing laws that improved inmates’ living conditions and human rights to international standards. I believe all Thai people feel grief and sadness from this loss and wish it had not happened. Since it has, we must move forward and continue the good work she left behind. If everyone holds onto her legacy, I believe she would look down with happiness, smiling with deep gratitude.”
