Nok Jariya Shares 5-Year Struggle with Panic Disorder and Fear of Alzheimers, Forgetting Her Own Children

Nok Jariya Today, she recounts her panic disorder that has lasted over five years, to the extent that she ordained as a monk for healing, and even now fears developing Alzheimer's disease. She appeared with her two daughters. Jamie and Jeans They shared the close bond between mother and daughters and revealed why she asked her daughters to quit their jobs. She also opened up after stopping the sale of their durian orchard and shifting to selling premium durian, on the 'Kuy Zaap Show' on One 31 channel.

Let's talk about the daughters' ages.

Jamie said, "I'm 31."

Jeans said, "I'm 30."

Wasn't the eldest son supposed to come too?

Nok Jariya said, "Yes, but he had to shoot for a client and worried about timing. He sends his apologies."

Could he come alone? He's very famous, right? Famous on his own?

Nok Jariya said, "He's our pride. Usually, star children want to do things without relying on their parents as they grow. Since he's involved in social media, people recognize him as himself, then later realize he's our son. He feels he can succeed on his own."

How famous are the siblings?

Jamie said, "Normally, when we go to the mall with James, we don’t wear makeup, but now if we look tired, we get noticed because people shout 'James!' and ask for photos."

Jeans said, "Not used to it. I have to remind James to shower too."

Nok Jariya said, "Because he has a lot of facial hair and sweats easily, and is heavy, Jeans tells him to wear perfume when he leaves the house because she worries about him."

Jamie said, "He's in QC because he suddenly became famous."

Nok Jariya said, "It's natural for him, but we worry when he sweats a lot."

Are all three children introverted?

Nok Jariya said, "Yes, all introverted. We, the parents, are too. As we work, we learn more about this. When the three were young, they disliked attention and being touched by others, so they naturally kept to themselves. Introversion seems to run in their blood."

Jamie said, "If you search 'introvert' on Wikipedia, our whole family would be an example: not going out much, enjoying activities at home."

Jeans said, "When I was growing up, I asked Mom if she had any friends."

Jamie said, "Because Mom always stayed with us, I wondered if she had friends."

Jeans said, "She just didn’t go out much."

Nok Jariya said, "I do have friends who love me. I like being alone and quiet. If anyone worries about me being alone, don’t. I enjoy being by myself and am very happy."

Jeans is following her parents’ footsteps by helping with their drama production company?

Jeans said, "Yes, I’m currently assisting Mom. I haven’t managed any projects yet, but I help with everything she does."

Do you sometimes argue?

Nok Jariya said, "Yes, but not really arguments. She often suggests new ideas or finds new work to offer me since she studied film. She’s like a thinking partner who helps me change my work. It’s a new generation, so we must give her opportunities to develop."

Jamie left her full-time job a year ago?

Jamie said, "I worked in a marketing agency."

Why did you leave?

Jamie said, "Because my health couldn’t handle it anymore. Mom asked me to quit."

Was the responsibility very heavy?

Jamie said, "Yes. The company wasn’t big, so one person had many responsibilities. I’m serious and workaholic, often working day and night without rest until my health deteriorated in every aspect. I had thyroid issues, hormone imbalance, PCOS. Even drinking water made me gain weight. I reached a point where I couldn’t sleep, and my hands trembled constantly. I joked with friends that I was born with only 20% battery and even when fully charged, it’s still 20% because I was so exhausted. I thought it was normal until tests showed goiter and an enlarged thyroid. My body was quite abnormal. Mom decided I should quit because it was caused by stress."

Nok Jariya said, "I saw my daughter was not well because her body showed many signs, and I felt sorry she could only sleep a few hours a day. She couldn’t sleep deeply. I couldn’t stand it. I felt health is very important. Sure, her job was good and progressing, but I begged her to quit and focus on health first. We’d think about work later. Earning a high salary but having poor health and no happiness isn’t worth it. I value happiness in the heart."

How has your health been since quitting?

Jamie said, "Much better, like a new life. I wake up not feeling tired and understand why my friends can do so much daily."

Recently, you were hospitalized?

Jamie said, "Same old condition—workaholic. While selling durian, I monitored feedback, read and replied to LINE messages all by myself until 3 or 4 a.m. I didn’t sleep. Mom drove me to the hospital and told the doctor to give me IV fluids so I could rest."

Jeans said, "She was so stressed she developed trigger finger."

Jamie said, "Yes, like immune deficiency and swollen joints. When stressed, my wrists, arms, and ankles swell."

Before selling premium durian, you announced selling the durian orchard but didn’t. Why?

Nok Jariya said, "The durian orchard has been around for 30 years. Jonny bought it and kept it because his mother is from that area."

How did Jonny feel when buying it?

Nok Jariya said, "He bought it while drunk; we didn’t know until later. We let professional farmers manage it because we were busy acting and other work, so couldn’t focus. When Jamie quit her job and recovered her health, she took on marketing. I’m proud of our durian orchard. The fruit is premium and exported abroad every year. We wondered why not circulate it domestically. She asked Jonny for permission to do marketing and then studied seriously. The whole family had to taste durian."

At first, you planned to sell it, but Jamie said, 'Why don’t we do it together?'

Nok Jariya said, "Yes."

May I ask about your panic disorder? How many years have you had it?

Nok Jariya said, "About 5-6 years, dating back to the COVID period."

What caused it?

Nok Jariya said, "I think it was accumulated stress from managing filming, work, and family. Everyone worried if my parents or family members would get infected. We had a drama shoot that lasted two years with starts and stops depending on who got infected. I stored stress without realizing it."

What were the symptoms?

Nok Jariya said, "There were two or three episodes. The first time, I was driving alone to a shoot in Khao Yai, singing as usual, but suddenly felt like I was nodding off. When I opened my eyes, a truck was right in front. I panicked, felt shocked, and my whole body went cold. I carefully steered to the roadside. Since then, I couldn’t drive because when I turned the steering wheel, it shook. I’d never experienced that and wondered what was wrong. I washed my face and slapped myself to stay awake."

When turning the steering wheel, it shook again, so you had to wait for someone to pick you up beside the road in Saraburi because you couldn’t drive anymore. You’ve driven again now, but for 3-4 years you couldn’t sit behind the wheel. There was a day when you felt unable to walk. Your daughter took you to a mall just after it reopened during COVID. After walking a bit, you told Jeans, 'Mom has no strength to walk,' and your legs felt weak. You slowly sat down on the floor. Jeans asked what was wrong, but you tried to keep going so she wouldn’t worry, then collapsed again. You sat down to eat but didn’t eat, saying you wanted to go home. You didn’t understand why a strong person like you was like this. It was your mind commanding your body to feel weak enough that you really couldn’t walk."

Was this the panic?

Nok Jariya said, "Yes. I was hospitalized many nights because I felt like I was dying, startled easily, feeling like death was near. I had to accept that I needed treatment."

Are you better now?

Nok Jariya said, "There is no cure, only improvement. There are times when my body is weak or something hits me suddenly and strongly, then symptoms return."

I heard you fear Alzheimer's?

Nok Jariya said, "I’m very afraid of Alzheimer's. I'm scared of forgetting my children. That fear is intense."

But you don’t have it yet?

Nok Jariya said, "Not yet. I see doctors regularly. They tell me I do not have it now."

You've been married to Jonny for 33 years?

Nok Jariya said, "The secret? We just live together, talk, argue, have ups and downs. I believe in understanding, friendship, and not having expectations. It’s not that he can’t have expectations, but we support and understand each other as much as possible."

Do you and your husband have sweet moments?

Jeans said, "They’re not the sweet type but do little things for each other daily."
