After DJ Tonhom Sakuntala Thianphairoj invested in opening a Thai massage spa with two friends in a prime Sukhumvit location, overseeing every detail carefully. Recently, she posted a job announcement for a receptionist at the spa.
She specified clear qualifications: looking for a beautiful woman with good personality and excellent English skills, as most clients are foreigners. The starting salary offered is 18,000 to 25,000 baht, depending on experience, with late shifts until 11 p.m.
"Come apply for the spa receptionist position. Must be beautiful and have good English (basic English not accepted). Salary starts at 15,000 to 25,000 baht (depending on experience). If you think you're outstanding, you can ask for higher pay. Work hours start late and end at 11 p.m., with one day off."
The spa is located in Sukhumvit. Send your CV including desired salary to make comparisons easier. Many have messaged to apply but provided little information, making it hard to decide. I'm looking for people who really want to work. Please message me; looking forward to working together.
Everyone, please don't get bored or complain. Haha. I haven't hired a receptionist yet. Many applicants are either too old, ask for salaries above the set range, or have only moderate English skills (the spa requires good English because most customers are foreigners). So I can't reply to every message. For now, I'm narrowing the recruitment. Please answer all questions, leave your phone number, and be ready to take calls. The spa is Walaa, Sukhumvit.
1. Are you under 35 years old?
2. Can you speak English well?
3. Can you work at Sukhumvit 18?
4. Is a starting salary of 18,000-25,000 baht acceptable?
5. Can you work until 11 p.m.?
6. Are you good-looking, with a good figure and personality?
If you answered yes to all, please send your photo and phone number.
Many followers commented on the post about the qualifications, appearance, and salary, with many feeling the salary does not match the qualifications.
Examples include: "If you were good-looking and spoke excellent English but only got 25,000 baht and had to work until 11 p.m., would you apply? Just answer yes or no," "Good English, good looks, good figure, good personality, work until 11 p.m., but salary only 18,000 baht," "Salary seems like no English skills are needed," "Skills 100%, salary might still be low," "Good English with 18-25k salary is rare, I speak from experience."
DJ Tonhom then posted a clarification, saying she always includes salary details in job ads to avoid wasting anyone's time. If the shop can't afford to pay more, there's no point in making applicants come for tests and get frustrated.
"Every time I post a job with salary info, there’s drama. There are always two groups: those who think the salary should be higher (even though they didn't apply) and those who accept the salary. I know people will comment on the salary, but I include it so no one wastes time applying."
"If I can't afford to pay more, why make people come for tests and waste their time and mood, knowing I won’t hire them? I’m clear about what I can pay. If you can accept it, apply. If no one applies, I’ll lower my standards. But so far, many applicants accept it and apply. Some applicants know they lack experience and ask for the lowest salary because they want the job. Nowadays, most young people can communicate in English."
"At 7-Eleven in Sukhumvit, employees speak English well despite low pay. Stop the drama about wanting good English skills but low salary. If you want a certain salary, just ask. You have the right to propose, and I have the right to choose. If I can afford you, I’ll hire you; if not, I won’t. #ThoseWhoCriticizeDidNotApply ThoseWhoAppliedAreFine Just propose, and I’ll accept or decline. Receptionist applicants, please answer calls for interviews today if you got a message. If you didn’t reply, it means your info was incomplete. That’s it!"
Many agreed with Tonhom’s clarification, appreciating her clear qualifications to save applicants' time.
Recently, DJ Tonhom announced a temporary closure of the receptionist recruitment due to the large number of applicants. She noted that those not yet contacted are not rejected but will be tested personally to find the best match.
"For receptionist applicants, I may not reply quickly because many applied this round. Those I called for interviews but haven't scheduled tests yet, it’s not that I’m not interested. I want to test everyone personally because it’s about matching both ways. You also have the right to choose me. The next two weekends are fully booked for tests."
"Now I’m closing this position temporarily to focus on testing the many qualified applicants. Since I clearly stated requirements, many suitable people applied."
Regarding massage therapists, it’s currently low season. I haven’t received many applications, but if anyone wants to apply, please send your age, certificates (required by law, no certificates means no acceptance), types of massage you perform, plus photos and phone number. If you can do deep tissue or therapeutic massage, please mention it. Hope to work together soon."
