After the female singer Jenny Ratchanok Suwanket , also known as Jenny Daidohtasodchuen, posted a video sharing her feelings after attending the ceremony to invite the Nora spirit teacher. She admitted that the experience transformed her from someone who was skeptical about spirit possession to a person of full faith. She revealed that her husband, Yiw Chatmongkol Somkaew, who normally did not believe in such matters, also changed his attitude after witnessing the event himself.
Jenny recounted that before the ceremony began around 7 p.m., she started feeling unusual symptoms from about 4 p.m., feeling feverish and strange upon hearing the sounds of the Nora drums. Although she tried to resist and told herself not to let it happen, the more she struggled, the more exhausted she became, until she was advised to relax and go with the flow.
She further explained that afterward she remained conscious and aware of everything but was unable to control her body, including speaking, walking, and standing up to dance. Later, she learned that the spirit believed to have possessed her was Praan Boon Na Thong, a figure in Southern Thai beliefs. She stressed that she had never studied or known much about this before.
From this experience, Jenny intends to hold the spirit teacher ceremony annually and plans to set up a shrine for Praan Boon at her home in Bangkok. She views this event as a reconnection with and renewed faith in the ancestral beliefs of her hometown.
Recently, Jenny Daidohtasodchuen posted a video showing the graceful dance honoring the Nora spirit teacher, captioned “Jenny and family pay tribute to the Nora spirit teacher,” accompanied by a praying hands emoji. She also shared clips of Yiw Chatmongkol and Lilly Nareenat Chuealaem, or Lilly Daidohtasodchuen, with the caption “Praan Yiw, Praan Ball, Praan Lee are here, haha,” adding a comment under the video clarifying, “This is a performance, not a spirit possession.”
Additionally, Jenny posted photos showing Yiw beside her during the Nora spirit teacher ceremony, captioned “Thank you for keeping your promise to always stand by me 懶✍ Chatmongkol Somkaew,” along with images of Jenny’s unusual symptoms during the ceremony. She wrote, “It’s not strange if some don’t believe or have faith. If one hasn’t experienced it personally, it’s hard to believe. We should not force anyone to believe in what we respect. Only descendants of the Nora spirit teacher can truly understand.”
She added that trying to silence skeptics is like trying to stop the rain from falling. Everyone’s beliefs are their own, as long as they don’t harm others. Only those with the true lineage can connect with this spirit. Descendants of the spirit teacher must be steadfast. Our duty is to receive, preserve, honor, and pass on this faith. For Jenny’s family, without the Nora spirit teacher’s protection, they might have perished long ago. This is their ancestor, heritage, and bloodline, which Jenny must worship, remember, and repay.
