After Sunny Backpacker the well-known travel YouTuber posted a photo of himself with the caption: "The travel plan will continue for another 10 months. I'll be back in Thailand mid-next year. The life of a traveler comes with a reminder: ‘Every time I leave home, I never know if I will return.’ Thank you all so much for your concern."
However, shortly after, the female comedian Noo Lek Patarawadee Pintong or Noo Lek Gaga commented asking, "Why do you have to go?" This sparked public criticism of her comment, with some strongly condemning it as thoughtless, questioning how she could ask that. They said traveling is a profession and a dream, and everyone must strive to earn a living, etc.
Most recently, Noo Lek Gaga posted a clarification on her Instagram @nulek_gaga regarding the controversy as follows:
“Regarding this drama, here is my explanation ‼️ I opened Instagram and saw news about Nong Holun on every channel and honestly felt quite stressed. Then suddenly his picture appeared, and when I read his post saying he would be away for a long time and wasn’t sure if he’d return home ,
my subconscious thought was, why does he have to go? I’m worried. Can’t he not go or take friends along? Something like that. But I sent the message before finishing typing. I didn’t think much because my intention was just concern after seeing stressful news and hearing what he said, so I was a bit worried, that’s all.
I apologize to his fans if my comment made anyone feel bad. There was no bad intention at all. I’m not thoughtless nor brainless as some comments suggested. But I’m not serious about those criticisms because I never intended that way. And the phrase ‘why do you have to go?’ isn’t harsh enough to deserve insults.
Anyway, I wish him safe travels both ways.
We are all Thai people. How could we not care for each other? Especially seeing news like this, even if we’re not relatives, we all share a feeling of concern.”
