"The Independent" The British tabloid reported that "Bryony Kate Smith" a former Thai female singer now working as a yoga instructor in Los Angeles, USA, has filed a lawsuit against a well-known airline after unknowingly swallowing a sharp wooden fragment broken off from a satay chicken skewer served during a flight to Los Angeles.
The case was filed on 24 July 2024 at a U.S. court in Los Angeles. The complaint states the wooden fragment caused her immediate pain, severe coughing, and frightening choking. She also endured significant pain and psychological anxiety while trying to expel the foreign object throughout the flight, finally removing the approximately 1.5-inch sharp wooden piece.
The incident occurred on 28 July 2024. Bryony experienced "persistent throat irritation, vocal fatigue, hoarseness, a tight sensation in the throat, and pain when speaking or singing for extended periods." She later consulted an ear, nose, and throat specialist, who found "scarring and trauma to the vocal cords consistent with wounds caused by a sharp object."
The lawsuit states Bryony was eating normally and was not at fault. It describes her as a "professional singer, artist, health expert, and speaker," whose income and livelihood "depend heavily on the quality and performance of her voice."
As a result of swallowing the wooden fragment, she suffered physical injuries, lost earning opportunities, damage to her career, and now faces "anxiety every time she eats or travels by plane."
Although Bryony still sings occasionally and her 2011 yoga video went viral on YouTube with nearly 16 million views, this lawsuit seeks damages covering past and future medical expenses, lost income and earning capacity, compensation for emotional distress from physical injuries, legal fees, and statutory interest.
Bryony was once a singer who released her first album with Maker Head under GMM Grammy, featuring hits like "Daydream," "Don't Go Back," and "Please Be Kind." She later left the entertainment industry to start a family and currently works as a yoga instructor in Los Angeles, USA.
