"Nok Usanee" has proposed to "Muay Nithittra." She opens up for the first time after surprising everyone by kneeling to propose in a romantic riverside setting in Japan, explaining why Nok was the one to propose and confirming that they will definitely marry this year, on the One31 talk show "Kuy Zaab Show."
Can you share the sweet moment?
Nok: I was extremely nervous, the most in my life. I always thought I would get married someday but never imagined I’d be the one kneeling to propose. It was exciting and I didn’t know how to act.
Usually, Muay would be the one to kneel. Why did you switch?
Nok: To surprise her and everyone else (laughs). If I waited for her, it might be another five years. We feel she’s already given a lot and sacrificed for others and for me, so I wanted her to be the one receiving for a change, to have a surprise like this.
Did you decide to do this because you don’t like surprises, so you gave her one instead?
Nok: Actually, I’m picky and don’t like surprises. I worry they won’t please me. I can’t hide my expressions. I told her not to surprise me because I might not like the ring. We had to choose it together.
Muay: I’m usually clumsy. Surprising her would be really hard.
Nok: But I planned to buy the ring myself to propose, so we could share that moment. We agreed that if we couldn’t decide, we might take turns kneeling for photos, no surprise. I picked the location but everything changed. Originally, I wanted a beautiful atmosphere, maybe a flower field abroad. We booked a trip to Georgia, but due to unrest, it was postponed. Then we thought about Khao Yai nearby but her schedule was packed. Suddenly, we got invited to Japan because an airline client was launching a Tokyo route and wanted us to attend the inaugural flight.
Did you think this was fate? This trip had to happen?
Nok: Yes, but we only had four days’ notice, and it was weekend time. On Monday or Tuesday, after hearing the news, I rushed to buy the ring. At the counter, I insisted on this size and style, no big stones, not too flashy or feminine. Usually, stores don’t have all sizes or styles available. I had been secretly gathering info, but didn’t expect it to happen so suddenly. She always wore her old ring and I told her to take it off sometimes, but she refused (laughs). On the proposal day, she wore both rings (laughs).
You had many emotions when you were proposed to. At one point, Muay wanted to jump off a bridge?
Muay: After watching the fireworks, we were chatting and filming casually, not thinking much. It started raining and I was hungry. I looked away briefly, and then she kneeled down. It shocked me—I wasn’t prepared and didn’t know what to do. I was speechless, wanting to cry and laugh at once. I thought, what do I do? I wanted to jump off a bridge. It was overwhelming and confusing.
Nok: Since we were in Tokyo, I thought it would be fun to wear cute yukatas to the fireworks festival. But kneeling down was tiring. I’d never been to a fireworks event before. I imagined the fireworks bursting as soon as she said yes. But in reality, millions of people and security kept telling us to keep moving. We walked for a long time, a kilometer or more.
Was there no one around at the proposal spot?
Nok: We walked a long way until we reached a place where they directed us to stand. We watched the show until it ended. Then the rain started and people left. We thought, let’s take photos at a nice spot with no one around.
How did you feel then?
Nok: Oh, I almost didn’t get married, almost had a funeral (laughs). My heart was pounding. The person we asked to film didn’t come, so we asked tourists nearby, whose wife stood behind the camera (laughs). He didn’t know what was happening but smiled when I knelt.
Muay: I felt every emotion. It brings me to tears just talking about it. As I’ve said before, I liked her since 2005. It took so long to confess, to meet again, to talk. I never imagined it would be her. It feels like everything is complete now.
Do you want to thank Nok for proposing?
Muay: Yes, I thanked her. She asked why I was crying and I said thank you for seeing my worth. It felt so fulfilling to receive that from her. Thank you.
Have you set the wedding date?
Nok: Yes, 26 November. The event will be near Samut Prakan. We chose the 26th because it’s the day she asked to be my girlfriend. We agreed on this within the first three months of dating that after three years, the date would be 26/11/2026. It’s a beautiful number, so that’s the wedding day.
What’s the theme?
Nok: English Vintage. We want a garden feel, with flared skirts. It will be a small, cozy outdoor event with just a ring exchange (Vow Ceremony) and a dinner party. We’re about 80% prepared (laughs). The big challenge left is losing weight. I’m too scared to try on dresses because I feel fat (laughs). I have a dress style in mind and have looked at shops online but I’m too afraid to try them on because we both want to lose weight first.
How much weight are you aiming to lose each?
Nok: About 6-7 kilograms. If you ask how much we gained, that might be more (laughs).
How do both families feel?
Muay: I told my mother from the start and my father too. Everyone’s okay with it. They’re happy as long as we’re happy.
Nok: My mother has to approve. I asked if she’d give me away. If not, I’d run away (laughs). She said no, so I told her we’ll go together. She’s coming (laughs).
Do you ever disagree?
Nok: Of course, that’s normal. But Muay’s nature is not to argue or fight with anyone. She’s very accommodating and tends to bottle things up. Usually, I get mad at her for not standing up for herself. Work stresses her out and she keeps quiet, so I tell her to speak up.
Muay: I’m the Devil behind the scenes pushing her to fight back.
Do you fight back?
Muay: I retreat and complain to her instead. I can’t get riled up.
Nok: And what do I do? I scold her again (laughs).
When you argue, who wins or loses?
Nok: That’s a question I don’t want to answer (laughs).
Muay: It’s clear: I give in and let her win.
Who is more lovestruck?
Nok: Another question I don’t want to answer (laughs).
Muay: It’s me.
Nok: Sometimes she’s so lovestruck she says "Enough already!" She likes to stare at my face and say "You look so beautiful today," or "Your hair looks great." It makes me shy (laughs).
Muay: When I first liked her, I never told her.
Nok: What’s there to be shy about? At home, I don’t wear clothes. Why get shy looking at me? (laughs) I’m comfortable at home. It’s not embarrassing to be naked, but compliments make me blush.
You seem sweet like a leading lady, but at home, roles are reversed?
Nok: That’s just the surface.
Muay: It's the test between the outer appearance and the real person.
Nok: Actually, she is gentle, caring, sweet, and likes pink. But she’s grown up with a protective shell, like a wild animal with defenses, so she shows a tough exterior. I keep telling her I’m not a delicate person.
Muay: She’s the adventurous, tough one who carries and lifts heavy things all by herself.
Nok: Changing light bulbs and stuff like that.
Muay: She chases away geckos and cockroaches by herself while I stay in bed (laughs).
Do you plan to register your marriage?
Nok: Yes, we intend to. For when we’re old, to help each other with health matters and hospital visits. But for now, we won’t marry and register immediately. We want to settle our lives properly first.
What about the marital home?
Nok: It’s not exactly a marital home but a retirement house. I’ll retire in a few years (laughs). We plan a countryside home with good air at Wang Nam Khiao, with some gardening and farming.
Have you picked the place yet?
Nok: Yes, the design is done. We’ve dug a fish pond. It’s a small cottage style. After the wedding, we’ll start building gradually while working.
When do you plan to retire?
Nok: Around 55, I guess.
Muay: About that.
Are you still working and traveling back and forth?
Nok: At that age, I think we can do many things without working in Bangkok. Maybe run an online shop. I plan to have 2-3 guest rooms for visitors to stay.
Few find a partner with whom they feel comfortable and happy. What would you like to say to each other?
Nok: No, I can’t say yet. I’ve already written the vows (Vow Ceremony), but she doesn’t know.
Not the wedding vows—something from the heart?
Nok: For Muay, she makes me believe in love even more. I’ve always believed in love and that I’d have a partner, but she makes me truly feel that true love exists. She makes me believe it will never change. She shows me she doesn’t just love the outside. When we’re old, sick, bedridden, I believe she’ll be there and won’t leave me, right? (laughs)
Muay: I often tell her thank you for being everything: a sister, a friend, a lover, a mother, truly everything. She takes care of me, especially my feelings and mental health. I feel safe with her. Since 2005, she’s still the same person.
