The situation has heated up into a controversy when Mae Phitchanaree Tantivit or Mae Primaya was criticized by netizens for allegedly loving and caring for her twin children Sol, her son, and Mone, her daughter, differently. A netizen posted a short clip where the children brought garlands to pay respect to their mother, but in the video, Mae appears to push Sol away before accepting the garland and focusing solely on Mone, gently stroking her head with affection and smiling. This sparked criticism.
However, fans later clarified that Sol was actually first in line to pay respect, but Mae pushed him away because when he was paying respect, Sol jokingly said, “I wish you to be bold,” which made Mae laugh and playfully push him away to practice a new blessing. The next in line was Mone, as seen in the clip. They confirmed this was normal family teasing, not neglect or pushing as misunderstood.
Previously, Mae Primaya expressed feeling pained for Sol, saying that when they go out, people often ask to take pictures with Mone while overlooking Sol. She worried Sol might feel less valued, so she would hug and hold his hand to comfort him. Yet netizens criticized that using children for money-making content and then blaming society for the impact was problematic. Also, comforting Sol might make Mone think their mother loves them unequally, sparking debate.
Recently, Mae Primaya issued a statement and apology, accepting all criticism on her personal Facebook page Phitnari Tantiwit, with the following message:
“Regarding what happened, if anything our family shared or expressed caused anyone discomfort, we sincerely apologize.
As parents, we still have much to learn and adjust. We acknowledge and listen to all opinions and concerns sent to us.
Thank you to everyone who has followed, cared for, and wished well for our family all along. We will take all advice into consideration and pay more attention to caring for the children.
Some mistakes we wouldn’t have noticed without societal feedback. After reading social media comments and reflecting, some behaviors were indeed not nice. I promise to change from now on.
Regarding my previous interview about venting about Sol, there was no ill intent, but my words may have been unclear, causing many to misunderstand that I blamed society.
