It was a surprising piece of good news at the start of September 2026 when young businessman and Bonanza heir Phupha Techanarong surprised actress Mint Chalida Wijitwongthong by proposing marriage after dating for over 14 years. Thairath Entertainment looks back on their love story.
Mint and Phupha's romance began when Phupha sent Mint a chat message asking for her BlackBerry PIN to continue their conversation. After chatting for a while, they arranged to meet for the first time. On that day, Mint was three hours late due to a car accident and even mistakenly approached the wrong table. Phupha then raised his hand from behind and said, "I'm here," which embarrassed Mint from their very first meeting.
In the early days of their relationship, Mint met Phupha’s family and friends, who expressed concern about whether he might be a flirt. But after meeting him, Mint realized he was not like that and saw his consistency. For a whole year, he never disappeared. Mint and Phupha gradually deepened their relationship and continued dating.
After dating for 6-7 years, there was a period when Phupha went to ordain as a monk, while Mint couldn’t due to her busy filming schedule. However, after over a month of ordination, when he returned, he disappeared—no calls or messages. Mint called her sister and learned that Phupha was still mentally attached to his monastic life.
When Mint spoke to him, he said he wanted to be alone, but Mint didn’t want to wait and asked to clarify whether they would continue dating. He replied they should stop talking for a while. Mint decided to end the relationship. After 8 months apart, everyone tried to reconcile them, and Mint had no other relationships since she hadn’t announced being single. Eventually, they got back together.
In 2024, Phupha faced major online drama with critics accusing him of disrespecting Mint and her family because, despite over a decade together, there was no sign of marriage. Mint responded by saying she wasn’t ready to marry yet and that it depended more on her. Phupha did not follow social media on this issue.
