After the actress Kwan Usamanee Waitayanon appeared as a witness in the case where Mrs. Panida Sirayuthyothin, mother of the late actress Tangmo Nida or Tangmo Pattharida Patcharawirapong filed a complaint against Kratik Ichsarin Jutasuksawat former manager and close friend of Tangmo, accusing him of submitting or citing false evidence in the investigation.
This issue sparked widespread attention, with many praising Kwan's courage but also expressing concern for her safety. Recently, Kwan attended the “Y Entertain Awards 2026” on the 7th floor of ICONSIAM shopping mall, where she was asked about this matter.
Are many people worried about your safety?
“I worry about myself too, but there’s nothing I can do except to know what should and shouldn’t be done. What I’m doing now is simply what I should do, based on what my parents taught me. I don’t know who is right or wrong, but I grew up around the police flats and the Crime Suppression Division, seeing everyone strive for justice, including my father. So I choose to act this way.”
“But regarding my safety, I ask for help from all the seniors and the public who protect me. I’m not a strong or tough person. I survive because of faith and encouragement. If I lose my faith or morale, it would be difficult for me.”
Have you received mysterious phone calls?
“I get a lot of calls but don’t answer unknown numbers. Only if it’s a senior I know do I return the call. For strange numbers, I just ignore them to avoid problems. For work-related contacts like reviews or events, they contact my mother’s official Line or call her number, and she handles it.”
Are you living cautiously now?
“Not paranoid, but careful. I’m glad to choose what’s right and stay within the boundaries set by my upbringing. Even though society changes, I watch my heart to keep it steady. I have support from Uncle Sonthi, Professor Panthep, many seniors, and several police officers.”
“It’s not just the police who care for me. Their affection doesn’t come from me but from the goodness my father showed them. My father was a sergeant, and everyone loved him, which extended to loving me—not because I’m Usamanee, but because I’m Kasem’s daughter.”
Many have praised your courage to speak out?
“I’m just doing what’s right. I’m not brave; I speak the truth and don’t act aggressively. I operate within my role.”
Will you need to testify again in this process?
“I will do everything required. If the legal process asks anything of me, I will comply to the best of my ability.”
What are your hopes for this case?
“The whole world probably has hopes for Tangmo’s case. From what we know, the initial hypothesis—whether for women or transgender individuals—is that no one had an accident or went to urinate at the back of the boat.”
“I want justice for everyone who was wronged, and Tangmo is one of them. I feel sorry for her. I believe she is doing her best in her role; otherwise, some matters would have faded away long ago.”
Some have referred to your earlier interview where you doubted the urinating-at-the-back-of-the-boat theory?
“Who believes that? It’s impossible. Professor Panthep, Uncle Sonthi, and the entire team have recreated the situation for everyone. At the river, as many saw in live streams, it’s difficult just to stand there without falling, let alone do anything else like pulling down a shirt sleeve. If not, everyone should try standing at the back of the boat like Tangmo did. You don’t even need to urinate—just try standing to see if you can balance.”
Will you wait for further proof?
“Yes. Once documents and evidence from Uncle Sonthi’s team, Professor Panthep, the investigators, prosecutors, and judges are reviewed, they should reach a conclusion we all can accept as the most plausible, rather than the accident theory.”
