This was an unexpected event in the life of Kan Atirut Kittipattana, a well-known news anchor and host, when his parents' house caught fire, damaging some belongings and requiring the first renovation in 10 years.
On his Instagram @canatirut, Kan posted a video sharing this cautionary story with the caption: “When Dad’s house caught fire, the kitchen is closed for a while. It was very scary. Thankfully, my parents are unharmed and the house wasn’t severely damaged. Sharing this as a warning.”
In the video, Kan Atirut said, “Right now, our kitchen is temporarily closed because our house caught fire.” He then showed footage of the fire and CCTV clips, explaining, “Previously, there was a fire at home that damaged the sofa and the air conditioner, and everything got covered in black soot.”
The cause was the charging of Dad’s regularly used headlamp. He asked everyone to observe: initially, it was charging near the TV. Then, after a short circuit and explosion, it fell onto the sofa. Normally, Dad doesn’t go far from home; he was outside with Mom. Then the fire gradually started. It took a while before the smell and smoke were noticed and the fire was put out.”
He warned as a cautionary tale for anyone charging devices at home unattended, saying it was very scary. The fire gradually spread because the sofa was highly flammable. After a short time, it burned extensively before Dad managed to extinguish it. No one was hurt; his parents are safe. The house, however, was covered in soot. The likely cause was the headlamp.”
Kan then decided to take this chance to renovate his parents' home for the first time in 10 years. The renovation is major, involving stripping wallpaper and repainting. Furniture had to be packed up, and the kitchen is temporarily closed. The ground floor is being redone and the work is expected to take 2-3 days.”
After Kan posted the video, industry peers and fans commented expressing relief that everyone was safe. Nok Jariya, who had a similar experience before, commented, “Omg, Kan, this happened at my house too. Luckily, someone was home and awake. Blessings to keep you safe.”
