A heated online controversy arose when a TikTok influencer recorded content interacting with Krit Sripoomset asking how many likes the clip needed to get free gelato for a month. Krit replied, “One million. The parameter level must be a million. You can’t come with just tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands. It has to be a million.” The influencer then urged netizens to like the clip to get free gelato.
After the influencer posted the clip, millions of netizens liked it and thousands commented. The influencer then showed the clip to Krit, saying it had reached one million likes and demanded the free gelato promise. Krit responded, "Don’t film this, I’ll come out and talk."
Krit then came out to talk. The influencer said free gelato would be about 30 cups for 30 days. Krit replied, “At first, when I saw you in front of the shop playing around quickly with me, I thought, ‘Who would really say that? No one actually gives that.’ Are you crazy? At first, I thought it was just quick play, and I went along with it, ‘One million likes,’ but I’m not giving it. Delete the clip. This would bankrupt me; my profit margin is very low. This is serious. Delete the clip, it’s okay. I’ll treat one or two cups only.” The influencer replied, “Okay, that’s fine, thank you.”
This incident sparked netizen reactions; some believed it was real, others thought it was staged content. Comments included: “Is this real or a show? If real, it’s very bad,” “Are people still thinking it’s not staged? Such obvious rage bait, haha,” “Won’t let filming but holding the mic,” “Acting harsh as if angry at someone,” and “Will this become a drama?” among others.
