The top country singer Hai Arpaporn Nakhonsawan was truly frustrated upon seeing the news of the arrest of former Luang Por Atichot, the former abbot of Wat Phutthaisawan in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, and the female devotee Ae, due to scandalous behavior involving sexual misconduct and embezzlement of temple funds.
Being a devout merit-maker who regularly visits temples and acts as a bridge for others to make merit, Mae Hai posted on her fan page after seeing this news: " Even though I make merit myself, seeing news like this makes me tired and fed up. Damn it, maybe it's time to change how we make merit. At this rate, good monks might end up starving."
Her post attracted hundreds of comments from fans, with some suggesting making merit by donating to animals, hospitals, the poor, or children. Others said that the merit depends on one's own actions and pure intentions; the karma of the monks does not affect the merit earned by the giver.
