Fans of the DJ-singer Ekky Ekachai Uasangkomset became concerned when he posted a photo of himself resting in the hospital with the caption, “Haha, I’ll tell you more later. For now, I’m taking a break from work and tennis for 3 days. #MyBodyNeedsRest”
Then DJ Ekky posted a video describing his illness and wrote, “Take care of yourselves, everyone. When we’re sick, we can’t do what we want because we’re too weak—even eating becomes difficult. #LoveYourselfMore”
In this video, DJ Ekky updated his condition: “Just a quick update. I want to warn everyone a bit. On Saturday at 4 a.m., I woke up to go play tennis, right? But as soon as I got up, I went to the bathroom, then sat back on the bed, and suddenly my head started spinning, really dizzy—I couldn’t stand and just collapsed.”
“I had to withdraw from the tennis match that day at 5 a.m. Then around 9 a.m., I felt somewhat better. But when I turned to the right side to lie down again, the room spun again—I couldn’t stand steadily. So I made an appointment with the doctor to find out what was wrong.”
“I thought maybe I had fluid in my ear or dislodged ear crystals—that was the initial guess. But when I saw the doctor, I suddenly felt very nauseous and vomited a lot. Then the doctor suspected something and tested whether it was fluid or ear crystals by doing movements to see if the crystals had shifted.”
“The test results showed it wasn’t fluid or crystals. The analysis suggested 'inflammation of the inner ear nerve.' That was the third possibility they considered because the test graphs didn’t indicate fluid or crystals. They checked other positions, and it wasn’t those either, so they tested for inner ear nerve inflammation, which could be serious.”
“The doctor ordered a brain MRI, which I’d never had before. Honestly, I wanted an MRI to see if I had any blood vessel blockages or small brain bleeds, which can happen spontaneously. It’s strange but it can occur by itself, or from lack of rest or stress.”
“The next morning, the neurologist reviewed my MRI results and said everything looked great—no blockages, no spots, no tumors. I was relieved because I had no idea what was going on inside my brain. Getting the MRI was a relief.”
“So the causes are narrowed down to three possibilities related to the inner ear nerve. There’s no tumor, so it might be 1. spontaneous onset, 2. stress—which I doubt since I’m not a stressed person, or 3. lack of rest. The last one is likely since I wake up very early, sometimes sleeping at 9 p.m. and waking at 3:30 or 4 a.m. At age 50, this happens sometimes, haha.”
“So now I need to manage my life better. When something serious happens requiring admission, you think a lot. I’ve been taking good care of myself, but things can still happen. So take good care of yourselves. I stayed in the hospital for 2 days and had an MRI. The total cost was about 50,000 baht. Without the MRI and for a 1-night stay, the cost would be under 20,000 baht depending on the room choice.”
“Everyone, please look after yourselves, get plenty of rest, eat nutritious food, and exercise. I’m very happy that my brain and blood vessels are in perfect condition. This is the result of exercising regularly. Thank you all for your concern.”
