"Vespa" has updated on the music copyright dispute, revealing that he has now won both cases in the Appeals Court.
He told the media,"Regarding the copyright cases, I have now won both. There are two cases: one where I filed a suit claiming the company used my copyrights without sharing the royalties.
In that first case, I won 100% on all songs in the Appeals Court because the court ruled that I must receive a percentage and royalties continuously. But as social media grew, the company stopped paying. After the ruling, the court confirmed I own the lyrics and melody rights, while the company owns the master recordings. Therefore, the copyrights are shared."
For the second case, where the company sued him for performing songs live on stage, Vespa said the court also dismissed the case.
"There was another case where the company sued me for performing several songs, including my own, on stage. The court dismissed that case as well, ruling that the songs' copyrights belong to the songwriter, not the company. Both cases concluded at the Appeals Court and are now pending at the Supreme Court."
Vespa also said regarding song usage and future legal reforms that he wants everyone to feel comfortable covering or performing songs for their livelihood on social media. He is working with parliamentary committees and senators to drive clear and fair copyright laws in Thailand that balance users, artists, and record companies.
