Being a mother, Tuk Siriporn was moved to tears when she had to send Nong Phu, her son, to pursue a master's degree in England. Recently, reporters met her at the opening of the “Aroi Sam Mae” market on the first floor of Central Plaza Rama 2, where they asked about this issue and also about the controversy surrounding her husband, Nui Chernyim, who had a fall, but people thought Tuk was more worried about the dog than him.
When asked about Nong Phu going to study in England?
“Yes, he’s gone. His aunt just returned. (Initially you said you wouldn’t go to send him?) I didn’t go to send him in England. At first, I planned to go, but my dog didn’t want me to leave; it can’t be apart from me. So, I agreed to let my sister send him instead. My sister stayed there for two weeks to take care of everything for my nephew and make sure everything settled.”
There’s a clip of Nong Phu speaking English with many praising his excellent accent?
“I don’t really know, but people who watched the clip said his accent is very British. Maybe it’s because he studied at an international school with British teachers. Am I happy? It’s worth all the hard work (laughs) to get here. Wow (smiles).”
Why were you crying in the car?
“I didn’t want my son to see me cry. I had to be strong and not cry, but as soon as I got in the car, I let it out. I sat and watched clips and photos from the airport. Watching the moment he was going through the gate made me cry, but it wasn’t heavy crying because I’m not that worried about Phu. He can take care of himself, and I’m not concerned about his language skills. Also, as I said, he can manage his life, like what to eat or buy.
He’s thrifty with money. When his aunt took him to England and bought things for his dorm, he shopped around three stores for a winter coat. He’s very frugal. Even though we live in different countries, before it felt far, but now with phone calls and LINE, it’s easy to keep in touch. So, I don’t worry much about my son.”
Does he have any worries?
“Yes, I asked him if he was worried. He said no because the dorm is just a short train ride to the university.”
Do you plan to visit him in England during his one or two years of study?
“Oh, he hasn’t asked me to visit. But I plan to go for his graduation because it’s expensive (laughs).”
Is studying in England costly?
“I let him manage it himself. I calculated the accommodation, living expenses, and tuition fees for the entire master's degree and gave him a lump sum. It’s several million baht, but less than ten million. If it were ten million, he might as well study here (laughs). I gave him everything at once to manage. When he buys something, his aunt drags her feet buying supplies for the dorm.”
Is your son thrifty and economical?
“I didn’t teach him that. I think he got it from his grandmother because my sister is frugal. Maybe grandma taught him (laughs).”
What does big brother Nui think?
“Nui isn’t worried. I told him to worry about himself. The air conditioner broke just a few days after my son left (laughs).”
Recently, there was controversy about Nui slipping and falling down stairs, with people thinking you care more about the dog than him?
“Of course, I’m worried. But people don’t know the background. I even went to get balm for him. I checked on him, and he’s fine. Don’t forget, Nui is overweight, so when he falls, the fat cushions him. That’s why he didn’t bruise or have broken bones. Afterward, we took the dog for a CT scan (laughs). It’s not a big drama.”
Are you serious about social media drama?
“Believe it or not, I don’t pay much attention. If I don’t prolong it, it ends.”
Recently, someone commented they want to see your bare face?
“(Laughs) I find that funny. Some things you just have to overlook. They want to know everything about me, but I don’t even want to see my own bare face (laughs). Oh well. I’m not angry about the posts, I just laugh (laughs).”
You use social media but aren’t addicted. You don’t read many comments, just skim through. You think some people with depression might focus too much on comments, which can be negative. So, social media should be used wisely.”
So, do you think your bare face is beautiful?
“Do I have to answer that myself? I should let others answer. Yeah, I’ll ask Khun Su and Khun Hai to respond. I’m curious what my friends will say.”},{
