Sompong Nakornthaisong Explains Why He Did Not Attend Prairie Phaiwans Mothers Funeral, Responds to Illogical Critics

An online controversy erupted when at the funeral of Armoey, the mother of Prairie Phaiwan Wannabut questions arose about why Sompong Nakornthaisong Prairie's close younger brother, was not seen attending the funeral, prompting harsh criticism that he should have been there given their close relationship.

However, Sompong did not let the criticism go unanswered. He explained the situation and shared a photo showing the wreath he sent as a condolence. He said he could not attend due to work commitments that could not be rescheduled, and because his wife, who is five months pregnant, could not safely endure the nearly 20-hour round-trip drive. He also informed Prairie, who understood.

"To those asking why I didn’t attend Armoey’s funeral, please read this first. If I wasn’t booked for speaking engagements on 25 and 28 September (in Udon Thani), and didn’t have to rush back and forth, I would have gone. But these speaking engagements are ones I cannot delegate to others as I have no team.

These events cannot be postponed because they were scheduled 3-4 months in advance, involving many government officials who have to coordinate dates for activities. I do not have a regular job with leave days I can take or colleagues who can substitute without causing issues.

Also, I have no driver (I’m not a confident driver). My driver, Som, is five months pregnant. Asking her to drive the 20-hour round trip from Chaiyaphum to Chanthaburi and back, then again 6 hours from Chaiyaphum to Udon Thani for another engagement, is too dangerous for a pregnant woman. I do not live in Bangkok, so I cannot just commute 7-8 hours like that.

I have already told Prairie this, and he understands. But those who asked with rude words—whether they were sarcastic or genuinely curious—may not understand the duties and necessities of each person. If I were free, with no engagements and just resting at home, then feel free to criticize me for not attending."

After Sompong's post, many readers expressed understanding and sympathy, recognizing that everyone has their own reasons. Sompong himself sent a wreath to express his condolences.

However, some still did not understand and made sarcastic remarks like "In my opinion, a person only dies once." Sompong replied, "Did you read every line carefully or just skim and not understand? Try suggesting solutions to every problem I mentioned that wouldn’t harm the event. Write them down, I’d like to read."
