At 10:00 a.m. on 20 Oct 2026 GMT+7, Ms. Jarutrat Maphobphan, aged 50, an administrative officer and secretary at a private organization in Samut Songkhram province, eldest daughter of Mr. Yothin Maphobphan, also known as "Uncle Yothin", aged 73, a former famous actor, released a video clip sharing her side with the media, asking society to hear the story from a child's perspective. This came after her father gave a TV interview claiming he was abandoned by family, had no place to live, and lacked food, sparking severe public criticism that heavily impacted her life and career.
Ms. Jarutrat revealed that her mother, Mrs. Benja, divorced her father in 1980. At that time, he was named Mr. Chatchai Maphobphan before later changing to Mr. Yothin. The divorce stemmed from his intimate relationship with a Northern woman. On the divorce day, he agreed to pay 700 baht monthly child support for two children until they reached adulthood but never fulfilled this, leaving the mother to raise them alone for seven years until she remarried in 1987. Since then, her stepfather helped support her and her sister until their mother passed away in 2019.
Ms. Jarutrat added she had not seen her father since childhood until they met again in 2014 when she was 38. Initially, she and her sister were happy to reunite, often dining out and keeping in touch by phone. However, the relationship soured as their father frequently used abusive and derogatory language toward them and other family members, causing estrangement. She said she and her sister felt "as if he never saw us as his children."
Furthermore, Ms. Jarutrat stated her father's interview on "Open Talk" on Thairath TV led to harsh social criticism and harm to herself, her sister, and "A-Aoi," her father's biological sister living in Romklao who has cared for him. She wants to clarify the family's side and is currently contacting her father's second ex-wife in New Zealand to record a video about his violent behavior and physical abuse during her pregnancy, which caused her to flee abroad with their child.
In this statement, Ms. Jarutrat presented the divorce agreement document between her parents as evidence, highlighting Clause 5 which states, "The husband guarantees not to interfere with the two children or claim any rights as their father for the children's future."
She also provided screenshot evidence of abusive messages from her father directed at her sister for the media to report, appealing for sympathy for their mother who bore sole responsibility for raising the children. She urged society to listen carefully to all facts before making judgments or accusations, to prevent further harm to the family from social backlash.
