Somrak Kamsing is a former 1996 Olympic gold medalist boxer and well-known actor. "Bas Somrak Kamsing" was recently sentenced by the 4th Regional Appeals Court in Khon Kaen to 1 year and 12 months in prison without suspension for abducting a 17-year-old girl and ordered to pay an additional 80,000 baht in damages.
The case arose on 10 December 2023 when Bas Somrak, aged 53, visited an entertainment venue in Khon Kaen province, where he met a woman. After the venue closed, Somrak took her to a hotel room and committed an act of indecency.
During the incident, Somrak asked the woman’s age and was told she was 17, so he stopped. She then called a friend to pick her up and filed a police report to press charges.
Previously, on 23 January 2025, the lower court sentenced Somrak to 2 years, 13 months, and 10 days in prison. Somrak was released on bail of 300,000 baht pending appeal.
Most recently, on 20 Oct 2026 at 09:45, Bas Somrak Kamsing arrived at the 4th Regional Appeals Court to hear the verdict regarding the 17-year-old woman’s case. About 10 supporters accompanied him. The court took approximately 50 minutes to read the ruling.
The 4th Appeals Court overturned part of the lower court’s decision, acquitting Somrak of attempted rape and assault charges due to reasonable doubt. He was convicted solely of abducting a minor over 15 but under 18 for lewd purposes (with the minor’s consent).
He was sentenced to a total of 1 year and 12 months imprisonment without suspension. Additionally, the court ordered him to pay an extra 80,000 baht in damages plus 5% interest, bringing total compensation to 200,000 baht including previously deposited funds.
Attorney Athiwat Niammeesri, representing the plaintiff, said after the court session that the 4th Appeals Court ruled on Somrak Kamsing’s case by reducing the sentence. While the lower court sentenced him to 2 years, 13 months, and 10 days, the appeals court acquitted him of attempted rape due to reasonable doubt, but convicted him for abducting a minor and ordered additional damages of 80,000 baht to the victim and her family.
Regarding the second defendant, the appeals court upheld the lower court’s dismissal. The plaintiff’s legal team intends to file a cassation appeal on the attempted rape charge, which remains unresolved and where they still believe Somrak is guilty as the lower court found.
Athiwat added that the cassation appeal will focus solely on the first defendant. Since both courts acquitted the second defendant, that matter is concluded. The appeals court imposed no special conditions on the 1 year 12 months sentence. The victim’s side will continue to pursue the case in cassation, as they believe she did not consent to the defendant’s actions and remain concerned about this issue.
Currently, "Somrak Kamsing" is awaiting bail.
