Pom Pam Niti Smiles on Love at 45, Shares Joyful 3-Year Relationship with Foreign Boyfriend

It caused a stir after “Pom Pam Niti Chaiyachitathorn” revealed for the first time on her own talk show that she is dating a handsome foreign boyfriend. Recently, Pom Pam opened up about love at age 45, saying it’s steady, not flashy, but bright. She also shared her secret to quitting alcohol and her views on marriage.

Are you happily in love?

“Actually, it’s just two older people dating, nothing dramatic but it’s bright. It’s been three years. How should I put it? (laughs) I’m not shy, but I don’t feel anything has changed. I still work and go about daily routines normally. It’s like having a goal. For example, if I’m dancing wildly in the street or about to cross it, normally I might think about myself or whether my parents would be embarrassed, or if my boss, P’Tha, sees me from the 30th floor, he might wonder why he hired me and if I’m still worthy of being his employee. With him, it’s like having someone else thinking about whether I’m being foolish (laughs). But is he okay with it? He probably has to be okay (laughs).”

Does he ask about you appearing on the show "Thai Tiew Thai"?

“He doesn’t ask. He seems to understand, like he knew from the start. He laughs. Honestly, I don’t keep up appearances. If suddenly I want to scream or be loud, that’s normal (laughs). He’s probably used to it by now.”

Does he live in Thailand?

“Yes (laughs).”

After you went public, many people congratulated you and see you as an idol?

“I don’t know what to say. It just happened unexpectedly. At 45, honestly, there’s no sweet, romantic moments. It’s just making a living. Like birthdays at this age, I don’t want gifts or anything. I say no presents, no dinners. But if I want, I’ll bake a cake myself because I’ve learned to bake at a modest level. I bake myself, no need to buy. Then I blow out the candles myself and eat it myself. In my mind, I want it to be private, but on second thought, if you look at it from the house opposite, it’s quite pitiful (laughs). Birthday with butter and flour made by myself, candles lit and blown out alone, then I eat alone. My heart feels happy but the neighbors must feel sorry (laughs).”

If people ask you about love, what advice do you give?

“Live your normal life. What advice can I give? It’s not like anything special. Just be yourself, but be more generous and considerate. You have to think of others sometimes. When you’re alone, you focus fully on yourself.”

Pom Pam, you don’t party anymore, and your boyfriend doesn’t either?

“No, if he wants to, I don’t mind. But I don’t drink anymore, and he’s not quitting. I’m the one who stopped. I told all my friends not to cut back or stop drinking because of me. Some are good friends who say, ‘If you don’t drink, I won’t either,’ but I told them no, go ahead and drink. To be strong in this, you have to be strong yourself. Otherwise, you keep running away. With Pok (Piyathida Mitthirarot) and Carrie, they’ve experienced it too. It’s normal. I just don’t drink; it depends on me.”

Also, if I completely left those scenes, there’d be no one left (laughs). Honestly, I’m grateful to my friends for being good supporters. No one pressures me or tries to convince me because they know I don’t drink.”

What do you do when friends call you to party?

“I drink tea mixed with energy drinks. I call it complex caffeine—Chinese tea with energy drinks—to stay alert. Lately, people ask how I quit or cut back on drinking. I’m happy to share and support anyone wanting to reduce drinking. If I can do it, they can too. I’m happy to encourage them.”

About marriage?

“Oh, it’s not on my mind, but I’m not refusing. If asked about registering, I would, but maybe not officially—maybe registering a dog instead (laughs). I have other responsibilities, like a bakery in Hua Hin, which helps keep me sane (laughs). It gives me something to do.”
