Netflix has released the series Devil Lawyer, an intense courtroom drama series, and the synopsis of Devil Lawyer is now available. The work is by Natthapon Boonprakob, an award-winning director behind the successful series "War: Express Delivery." It aims to expose the loopholes in the Thai justice system straightforwardly, prompting the question: when trapped in a distorted system and unlucky fate, what must one sacrifice to fight for the truth?
Devil Lawyer, the Netflix series, is the first Thai courtroom drama series from Netflix that offers a fresh storytelling approach accessible to global audiences. It is based on thorough research of real cases and court procedures, blending dark humor and intense emotional scenes while exposing societal wounds, systemic injustice, and the moral gray areas that hit close to home.
The story of Devil Lawyer follows Mek (played by Nat Kitcharit), a young lawyer who firmly believes the law should protect the powerless. Yet, that belief is shaken
when he becomes the prime suspect in the murder of Big Anan’s son (played by Songsit Roongnophakunsri), a highly influential senior police officer. Mek's life turns upside down overnight—from defending others to fighting for his own life—and the legal system he trusted no longer delivers the justice he expected.
At his lowest point, Mek must accept help from "Jittri" (played by Ratha Pho-ngam), the so-called devil lawyer famous for exploiting every legal loophole, bending all rules, and using any means necessary to win cases. She offers to defend him on one condition: he must work for her, raising suspicion about why she would help without asking for payment.
As Mek steps into Jittri’s world and uncovers the complexities behind the justice system, this question deepens, drawing both Mek and viewers into a profound exploration of every shade of the judicial process.
Devil Lawyer does not focus on a single case but takes viewers through multiple interconnected cases, all linked by Mek’s fate. Each case forces him to confront the gap between the justice he once believed in and the harsh reality—two worlds apart.
Jittri, who has experienced severe injustice in the past, has lost faith in the system. To her, the courtroom is a game to be won, where survival trumps morality. Meanwhile, Mek starts with strong convictions to do everything right and straightforwardly, but working with Jittri challenges him to wrestle internally over how long he can uphold his ideals.
The series also features a powerful cast including Achariya Pho-phipitthanakorn as "Ang," a young politician and human rights lawyer; Pholwat Manuprasert as "Rit," Mek’s father and senior judge forced to choose between his principles and his son;
Paophet Charoensuk as “Techin,” the only son of senior police officer Big Anan, along with many others who portray roles from villagers, monks, and doctors to laborers. Each character represents a different perspective on "justice," both inside and outside the courtroom.
The core of Devil Lawyer is not just about how each case ends, but more importantly about the journey—whose voices are heard, whose are ignored, and how easily someone can be labeled good or bad without considering the bigger picture. In a broken system, will you endure being good or choose the devil’s way?
