The Chinese series currently dominating the feeds of viewers in Thailand and worldwide is The Early Spring. It recently set a record by holding the No. 2 position on Netflix’s Top 10 Non-English Series chart globally for two consecutive weeks, with 3.2 million views. It also ranked in the weekly Top 10 across 38 countries and maintained the No. 1 spot for an extended period in Thailand, Indonesia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Vietnam (statistics from 31 Aug to 6 Sep 2026). Alongside this, sweet still images of the “boss look” and “Zhetao” were released to delight fans while waiting for new episodes on Netflix.
The series The Early Spring follows the story of the highly capable advertising director Luo Nian (played by Jing Boran) and the earnest, determined newcomer Xiang Zhetao (played by Sun Qian) in their work environment. Both face intense office pressures in a fast-moving workplace while keeping their secret relationship hidden to protect the partnership they have built.
spans a decade of desires, conflicts, and changes. It follows advertising director Luo Nian and new employee Xiang Zhetao as they develop a forbidden romantic relationship at work. Despite their mutual attraction, they are repeatedly separated by the pressures of urban life. They confront heartbreak, difficult choices, and personal growth. As Xiang Zhetao discovers her true self and Luo Nian lowers his defenses, they learn to heal, face each other as equals, and write a new chapter together.
Jing Boran plays Luo Nian, the sharp-tongued advertising director who has won fans’ hearts and become a beloved figure. Known for his intelligent and intriguing persona and charismatic screen presence, producer and scriptwriter Gao Xiaoxian praised Jing Boran’s dedication: “Jing Boran always prepares thoroughly. We often discuss the emotional development of his character before filming.” He also carefully crafts Luo Nian’s look, personally bringing costumes and securing support from major brands to convey the character’s fashion image, while exercising nearly every day to fit the role.
Sun Qian portrays Xiang Zhetao, the newcomer whose complex relationship with her boss is a series highlight. Sun Qian said, “I hadn’t had much experience filming intimate scenes before, so at first I felt shy and nervous. The intimacy coordinator helped make filming more comfortable and natural. My favorite scene was the ‘charades game’ because during filming my mind was almost blank.”
Sun Qian’s natural expressions, gestures, and detailed acting have earned her abundant praise. She said, “I come from Harbin and moved to Beijing to pursue my dream, just like Xiang Zhetao. The story covers 10 years, and this year marks my 10th year in the industry, so I deeply connect with her journey. I hope viewers gain courage, resilience, and dedication from this female character.”
Viewers have also praised the two leads as a perfect cast for Luo Nian and Xiang Zhetao. Director Jiang Qizheng commented on their chemistry: “Their differences and chemistry blend very naturally. They are not typical idol drama leads but have distinct charm and emotional rhythms.”
Producer Gao Xiaoxian explained that the team prioritized casting actors who could faithfully portray the original characters and convey their emotional depth. He praised Jing Boran for perfectly expressing Luo Nian’s elegant and dignified charm and Sun Qian for capturing both youthful spirit and mature composure throughout Xiang Zhetao’s growth.
