Spreading loving-kindness across the three realms (the realm of desire, the realm of form, and the formless realm), also known as the "Universal Loving-Kindness Chant" is the act of setting a mind of boundless goodwill toward all beings without preference or aversion. It is believed to bring great merit, calm the mind, and make one beloved by both humans and deities.
The loving-kindness chant to all beings in the three realms of existence is a practice to open the mind widely, dedicating merit to karmic creditors, deities, all beings, and spirits in every dimension.
Sabbē sattā
All beings who share the sufferings of birth, aging, sickness, and death altogether,
avērā hontu
May they be happy and free from enmity toward one another.
apyāpajjā hontu
May they be happy and free from harming one another.
anīghā hontu
May they be happy and free from physical and mental suffering.
sukhī attānaṁ pariharantu
May they have happiness of body and mind, protecting themselves from all suffering and harm.
"I hereby dedicate the merit I have accumulated today and in past lives as homage to the Buddha, Dhamma, and Sangha, and extend loving-kindness to all beings throughout the three realms.
Whether they reside in the lower realms (hell beings, hungry ghosts, spirits, animals)
or in the human world, in all forms and names,
and including the deities of the heavenly realms, as well as the Brahma realms of form and formlessness,
may all receive this merit. If they suffer, may they be freed from suffering; if they are happy, may their happiness increase. May this current of loving-kindness reach all universally."
1. Peaceful sleep, joyful awakening, and a mind free from distraction or nightmares.
2. Beloved by humans and non-humans alike, protected by deities, with a radiant face.
3. Easier concentration, as a mind full of loving-kindness becomes gentle and quickly calm.
4. Quells karmic retribution, easing burdens and reducing hostility from karmic creditors.
While chanting, keep the mind light and visualize a soft white light radiating from the center of the chest, spreading endlessly like ripples on water.
