Somdej Chitralada, The Kings Power Amulet, Year 1966

“Somdej Chitralada”

This amulet was personally crafted by His Majesty the King in both large and small molds, totaling about 3,000 pieces. They were bestowed upon soldiers, police officers, government officials, and civilians from 1965 until 1970.

Each amulet was personally presented by the King along with a private document (a certificate) indicating the recipient’s name, the date of presentation, and a unique serial number for every piece.

The King instructed recipients to apply gold leaf to the back of the amulet and keep it as a lifelong sacred object, encouraging them to perform good deeds without expecting any reward.

The Somdej Chitralada molds were carved by Professor Paitoon Muangsombun, a retired civil servant from the Sculpture Division of the Fine Arts Department at Silpakorn University.

He served closely in royal duties related to sculpture and was honored to carve the molds as a royal service.

Somdej Chitralada is considered one of the finest amulets, personally created by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej himself.
