Luang Pho To at Wat Phanan Choeng Worawihan (Also called "Chao Pho Sam Pak Kong" by Thai people of Chinese descent) in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province, this is one of Thailand’s most sacred and oldest Buddha images.
Luang Pho To is renowned for his compassion and greatness. Thais believe he helps smooth life’s path, grants authority, and ensures success in all endeavors, "big and grand" as his name suggests.
Chinese devotees honor him as "Sam Pak Kong," a deity protecting sea voyages and commerce. Thus, business owners, shopkeepers, and travelers often come here first to pray.
1. Business and trade: wishing for booming sales, expansion, and profits meeting targets.
2. Luck and finances: hoping for steady income and enhancement of wealth fortune.
3. Safety: protection from harm and kindness from others during travel.
4. Family harmony: dispelling evil influences from the home.
1. Begin by paying respects outside the hall, lighting incense and candles, and offering flowers.
2. Enter the hall to worship Luang Pho To inside (the feeling is very sacred because his large image fills the hall).
3. When making a wish, look directly at his face (his eyes), state your full name clearly, and specify the one most important request.
4. A tip: don’t forget to draw a fortune stick (siam see) beside the statue, as the fortune telling here is reputed for accuracy.
Wat Phanan Choeng has unique traditions for fulfilling vows.
(Recite the homage phrase three times)
Toh Sen Toh Warathammena
Toh Satthane Sive Ware
Toh Sang Akasi Dhammanang
Toh Sajittang Namamihang.
However, beyond paying respects to Luang Pho To, cultivating a pure mind and consistently doing good deeds will bring increasing happiness and a better life.
