“Luang Pho Daeng,” also known as “Phra Khru Yan Wilat,” was born in Bang Chak subdistrict, Mueang district, Phetchaburi province. His father was named Mr. Paen and his mother was Mrs. Num On Saeng. He was born on Wednesday, the second day of the waxing moon in the 11th lunar month, Buddhist year 2422 (1879).
His parents wished for him to be ordained and took him to study under Ajarn Plian at Wat Khao Bandai It. Ajarn Plian taught Luang Pho Daeng Vipassana meditation and how to sit in contemplation, as well as sharing sacred occult knowledge openly without reservation. This inspired Luang Pho Daeng to immerse himself in learning, eventually forgetting to disrobe. Over time, he deeply appreciated the taste of the Dhamma and decided never to leave the monkhood, becoming a highly respected senior monk. In 1918, after Ajarn Plian passed away, Luang Pho Daeng took over as abbot of Wat Khao Bandai It. Although the role brought many responsibilities,
he continued practicing meditation daily, sitting in a cave seeking liberation. His wisdom and concentration grew strong, his mind calm and pure. It is said he possessed spiritual hearing and sight. He was kind-hearted, merciful, and always cheerful, disliking scolding or cursing others, especially foul language. His parents had taught him to avoid such speech, saying that everyone has parents, and speaking ill of one's ancestors diminishes goodness. Even wearing amulets would not protect those who curse.
Luang Pho Daeng passed away from old age at 96 years old, with 74 years in the monkhood. Before his death, he told Deputy Abbot Phra Palat Boonsong Dhammapalo, “When I take my last breath, do not cremate me. Keep my body in the prayer hall and place the first edition blessed coin in my mouth along with one troy ounce of silver. I cannot take this with me. Also, apply turmeric to my body so it looks golden like gold.” Because of this,
the first edition Luang Pho Daeng medal gained great sacred power and is highly sought after by collectors. In 1960, his disciples obtained his permission to create the first edition medal on the occasion of his promotion to Phra Khru Yan Wilat (Daeng) and his 82nd birthday. The medals were made only in silver and copper; only 82 silver medals were made, matching his age.
The Luang Pho Daeng medal is renowned for its excellent protective powers, especially invincibility and safety, making it well-known among people in Phetchaburi province and across the country.
