The Beginning of the Legend
The casting medal of Luang Pho Ngoen from Wat Bang Khlan, Phichit Province (produced around 1907-1917 CE) is considered one of Thailand's supreme top five legendary casting medals, famed for its universal spiritual powers, great charm, and invincibility.
Wat Hiranyaram is the temple that “Luang Pho Ngoen Buddhachote”
the famous monk whom every collector knows, established around 1930 CE. He chose this site for its peacefulness and proximity to the community, making it ideal for meditation and practicing Dhamma. Originally, the area was dense forest inhabited by many animals. The temple began as a small monastery with a simple thatched-roof monk's dwelling. Before settling there to build the temple, Luang Pho Ngoen brought a Bodhi tree sapling from Wat Khongkharam and planted it, praying that if the temple would prosper, the tree would grow and spread its branches widely.
Luang Pho Ngoen was born on a Friday in the tenth lunar month of the Year of the Ox, corresponding to 16 September 1810 CE. However, the exact birth year is uncertain because the shrine housing his life-sized statue at Wat Bang Khlan states 1805 CE. If he was born in the Year of the Ox on a Friday in the tenth month of 1810 CE, that year corresponds to the Year of the Horse. If the Year of the Ox is prioritized, the birth year should more likely be 1805 or 1817 CE.
Luang Pho Ngoen was truly a monk of the people. He served as a traditional healer, providing remedies and blessings, and never refused requests for talismans or amulets. Everyone who sought him out was never disappointed and often experienced remarkable results.
Prince of Chumphon, Krom Luang Chumphon Khet Udomsak, a disciple of Luang Pu Suk from Wat Pak Khlong Makham Thao, consulted his teacher about whom to learn additional skills from. Luang Pu Suk recommended Luang Pho Ngoen of Wat Bang Khlan, as they were from the same tradition, but Luang Pho Ngoen was more senior.
Consequently, the Prince came to study under Luang Pho Ngoen.
Luang Pho Ngoen peacefully passed away from old age on Friday, the 11th waning day of the tenth lunar month in the Year of the Goat, 1919 CE, at the age of 107.
