
National Labor Day It falls on 1 May every year. According to history, labor conditions originally had no clear agreements or welfare between workers and employers. Until 1889, demands were made for a maximum eight-hour workday and a review of basic labor rights. These demands led to gatherings, clashes, and ultimately casualties.
That event led the world to honor the courage of the labor movement. Subsequently, 1 May of every year was designated as International Labor Day, or May Day in English, marking the start of fair employment practices and better welfare arrangements.
The history of National Labor Day in Thailand was first mentioned in 1932 during the tenure of Field Marshal Plaek Phibunsongkhram as Prime Minister. As Thailand’s industries expanded, labor issues emerged. That year, labor management and protection were improved. Later, in 1956, 1 May was officially recognized as a day to honor Thai workers, called “National Workers’ Day,” and the name was changed to
“National Labor Day” in 1957. Initially, workers did not have the day off, but in 1974 it was declared a public holiday to celebrate Labor Day. .
Labor Day is an important occasion celebrated worldwide to honor workers, who drive industry, the economy, and social progress.
