Teachers Day 16 January 2026: History and Annual Teachers Day Slogans

National Teachers' Day 2026 It is the day when Thai society collectively honors the teachers, who are vital in educating and shaping the nation's future. Teachers not only impart knowledge but also instill values, morals, and life guidance to their students. Falling on 16 January each year, Teachers' Day offers students the opportunity to show gratitude to their teachers and officially recognize the dignity and importance of the teaching profession.

What is the history behind National Teachers' Day 2026?

The origin of National Teachers' Day in Thailand began on 16 January 1945, with the announcement of the Teachers Act in the Royal Gazette, which established the “ Teachers' Council ” under the Ministry of Education. This council serves as a central organization bringing teachers nationwide into membership, playing a role in proposing beneficial ideas for the teaching profession and providing policy and academic advice to government agencies.

Later, at the 1949 annual general meeting of the Teachers' Council, Prime Minister Field Marshal Plaek Phibunsongkhram addressed teachers nationwide, emphasizing their role and contributions as benefactors to society. He proposed the idea of holding an event to honor and remember the importance of teachers.

Following this idea, the Cabinet resolved to designate 16 January each year as “ Teachers' Day ” and the first official National Teachers' Day was held on 16 January 1957. The event included various activities such as screening films about teachers' history, publishing commemorative books, and symbolic ceremonies to express gratitude and respect to teachers, who are vital to the nation.
