When mentioning the most powerful symbol in Thailand, none can surpass the "Garuda Emblem" or "Phaya Krut" which we recognize well as the seal on official documents and important buildings. In the realm of faith, Phaya Krut is regarded as a supreme talisman with universal spiritual power, especially in great authority and destiny protection.
According to Brahman-Hindu beliefs, "Krut" is the mount of Lord Narayana (Vishnu), possessing divine power equal to the gods and immense strength. In Thailand, the king is considered an avatar of Lord Narayana, and the Garuda emblem symbolizes royal authority. This belief has been passed down for centuries, making the "Garuda Emblem" a revered sacred symbol deserving the highest respect.
Devotees believe in the talisman's life-enhancing powers as follows:
Inviting Phaya Krut into a home or workplace follows traditional guidelines passed down through generations:
Invitation Ceremony Should be held on Thursday (Teacher’s Day) or Saturday, preparing offerings of sweet fruits, clean water, and white or red flowers.
Placement Position Should be placed higher than eye level, facing the main entrance to help filter energy and protect the household.
Important Prohibitions Do not place Phaya Krut in dark or dirty places such as under stairs, in front of bathrooms, or unclean areas, as it is considered disrespectful to the sacred symbol.
Main Phaya Krut Worship Chant
Before chanting, recite "Namo" three times to honor the Buddha’s virtues, then say the following invocation:
"Karupicha Kittimanta Ma A U Om Phaya Krut Ruj Ruj Laeo Ruay Na Dieng Na Dai Thong Na Dai Sap Na Metta Na Lang Aatrap Na Jaroen Na Man Khong Athitami"
Shortened Phaya Krut Chant
For those with limited time or who wish to quietly meditate often to enhance focus and merit:
"Om Vishnu Mahadeva Nama Ha" (chant 3, 5, or 9 times)
"Phaya Krut" is a symbol of gratitude (according to the legend where he saved his mother from the Nagas) and honesty. Worshippers should observe the Five Precepts, especially honesty in duties and gratitude to benefactors, which helps their prayers manifest more powerfully and quickly.
