Discover the charm of a restaurant called "Krua Klang Thung," located in Phu Toei Subdistrict, Wichian Buri District, Phetchabun Province. Many might assume from the humble setting surrounded by lush green rice fields and natural coolness that it is an ordinary eatery. However, visitors are pleasantly surprised when tasting the food, as the dishes are meticulously prepared and beautifully presented, comparable to those of a fine dining restaurant. The standout dish, widely praised, is the "Peking duck."
Wichian Jeenmahan, 68, the owner, demonstrated the restaurant’s signature dish, the "Peking duck," with calm precision. The secret to the duck’s crispy skin lies in slowly pouring oil over the skin continuously for 15-20 minutes to achieve the uniquely thin and crispy texture.
The Peking duck here is perfectly served following the traditional Chinese recipe with a long history. Thin, crispy duck skin is wrapped in delicate pancakes, accompanied by a special sweet sauce and side garnishes of spring onions and cucumber sticks. The harmonious flavors have earned high praise from regular customers, making it a rare dish to find in Phetchabun Province.
The owner, Wichian, revealed that one whole Peking duck can be transformed into three different dishes depending on the customer’s order. On the day of the demonstration, the duck was used to prepare delicious dishes such as black pepper stir-fried duck meat and garlic fried duck bones. The restaurant also offers other popular recommended dishes like fruit shrimp salad, herbal fish, soft-shell crab stir-fried with curry powder, Chinese-style red braised tofu, and many more.
