Je Pom, the 70-Year-Old Charcoal-Grilled Meatball Vendor, Shares Secret Sauce Recipe She Refuses to Sell Despite High Offers

A Paed Riew icon, the shop is open daily without breaks, with the vendor selling from youth to old age. Customers are loyal, attesting to the fragrant aroma from the charcoal and a dipping sauce flavor that can’t be found elsewhere.

Anyone passing by Wat Hua Samrong in Plaeng Yao District, Chachoengsao, will be captivated by the classic sight of a small meatball shop emitting the strong aroma of an old-fashioned "charcoal stove." There stands the seasoned vendor Je Pom—Mrs. Klinsuwan Sudsaneha, 70 years old—efficiently grilling meatballs with a smile. She has been steadfastly selling here for over 40 years, from her youth until now, as her hair has started to gray.

What amazes locals and earns their praise is Je Pom’s fighting spirit—she has never stopped selling, not even for a single day. Rain or shine, including public holidays, she wakes early to buy meatballs from the Paed Riew fresh market, then sets up her charcoal stove ready for customers from 9 a.m. continuously until 5 p.m.

The secret that made this shop legendary is its unique secret dipping sauce, rich and balanced in flavor, unlike any other. It pairs perfectly with smoked meatballs, crispy skin, or freshly fried quail eggs cooked over the charcoal stove. Some passing customers loved the sauce so much they once offered a six-figure sum to buy the recipe, but Je Pom firmly insisted,"I don’t sell it."She intends to preserve it solely as a family heirloom to pass down to her descendants.

A regular customer shared that they have eaten here since they were a child and the taste has never changed. The aroma of the charcoal stove combined with Je Pom’s dipping sauce is a nostalgic flavor that truly can’t be found anywhere else.

Those wishing to try it can visit in front of the entrance at Wat Hua Samrong, Hua Samrong Subdistrict, Plaeng Yao District, Chachoengsao Province. The shop is open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. every day.
