Hia Ta, owner of Tian Tian Dim Sum in Khon Kaen, opens up about continuing the legacy of fine dining flavors at friendly prices, freshly made daily with a thousand baskets served each day.
Amid rising living costs, Tian Tian Dim Sum on Sri Chan Road in Khon Kaen has long sold dim sum at 10 baht per basket, becoming a beloved spot for people of all ages for over three decades. The menu offers nearly 30 varieties, including pork shumai, har gow, pork ribs, baby corn, and many more, all freshly prepared daily with no leftovers kept overnight.
What draws customers consistently, filling tables every day, is the unique style of service. They bring outthe trays immediately when customers sit down. The shop presents nearly 30 dim sum varieties right before you, allowing customers to pick whichever pieces they like at a uniform price of 10 baht per basket. Additionally, signature single-plate dishes like crab fried rice, red braised fish maw, preserved olive rice, and Hokkien fried noodles blend traditional recipes with modern touches for a smooth, balanced flavor.
Anupol Chaipa, or Hia Ta, the 38-year-old owner, shared an interesting secret to maintaining the 10 baht price. He sees profit as a form of happiness, comparing preparing ingredients and opening the shop daily to exercising. Though the profit per basket is small, the reward comes from customers who return regularly, which represents the long-term profit that has sustained the shop for 30 years.
