Experience the lifestyle of the old town's Sino-Portuguese architectural district with crispy yet soft roti made from a non-greasy recipe, priced affordably starting at just 10 baht. Discover the signature dishes that tourists must stop to savor, offering a unique richness found only in Satun.
Satun Province is renowned for its cultural diversity, especially its breakfast culture centered around "roti," which has become a staple dish that every visitor must try. To find the original taste that has been part of Satun for over 40 years, head straight to “Azib Roti” on Buriwanit Road in Mueang District, Satun—a historic area surrounded by charming Sino-Portuguese architecture.
Ms. Yuwadee Osatan, also known as Aunt Daeng, the owner, says the roti here is famous for being "crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and not greasy." The basic menu starts at just 10 baht per piece, served with “bean curry” made from a secret recipe that Aunt Daeng insists is unique, as well as “Kaeng To Maeh,” a richly flavored curry that enhances the roti’s taste.
Besides the basic roti, the popular Mataba is a must-try, featuring soft dough fragrant with butter and fillings packed with exquisite spices. There are also banana roti, egg roti, and sunny-side-up egg roti, all served hot and freshly made for each order.
The signature item is the goat milk-based drinks, especially the goat milk tea priced at 40 baht per glass, offering a sweet, creamy, and smooth flavor with a distinctive aroma rarely found in typical breakfast spots. Both locals and tourists agree that the smooth goat milk taste paired with hot roti is the perfect way to start the day.
For those planning to visit Satun’s old town, Azib Roti is open for breakfast from 06:00 to 11:00, closed every Saturday.
