From a former factory worker to the owner of a sought-after chicken rice shop, capturing food enthusiasts with Northern Thai chicken biryani and khao soi recipes, along with the restaurant's signature runny eggs.
Anyone passing by the New Chakangrao Road in Kamphaeng Phet will notice a restaurant bustling with customers throughout the day. This is Chao Ouan Khao Man Gai, which has become a culinary destination for those seeking rich, balanced flavors.
The origin of Chao Ouan Khao Man Gai began with a former factory worker who decided to leave city life behind and transform her father's 20-year-old wooden house into a restaurant.
Jiraporn Sonsuwan, the 41-year-old owner, casually explained the shop's name comes from the fact that she, her husband, and their children are all on the heavier side, and since the kids especially enjoy chicken rice, they chose to name the restaurant accordingly.
What sets this restaurant apart is its diverse menu. The husband handles the rice dishes, including tender chicken rice, richly spiced chicken biryani, and grilled pork neck rice. Jiraporn takes care of the noodle dishes, such as khao soi and northern Thai noodle soup, recipes inherited from her mother and grandmother from Chiang Mai. Every dish features special runny eggs as a signature that customers must order. Additionally, the menu includes refreshing items like fried meatballs, fried tofu, and a variety of desserts.
On Saturdays and Sundays, the restaurant offers rotating special dishes such as curry, stir-fried mackerel with spicy herbs, pork trotters, and pork knuckle stew to provide variety for regular customers. All dishes are priced at 50 baht per plate.
