Durian at 5 Baht per Segment in Lampang Defies Rising Prices, Delights Budget Eaters

As the durian season begins, often called the "king of fruits," many people sweat over soaring prices. But for the people of Lampang, this summer promises delight, thanks to a clever stall offering durian at a shocking price—starting at just 5 baht per segment. Defying the trend of rising living costs, customers and durian lovers flock to the stall, queuing up until it's packed.

From a well-known laab restaurant to a beloved durian stall, this unbeatable tasty spot is located in front of Surasakmontri Camp in Lampang province. The owner explained, “Originally, this was a laab and general food restaurant, but during the summer, we temporarily paused food service and transformed the front area into a full-scale durian stall.”

The highlight that excites customers is the small pieces of durian flesh sold at charmingly low prices, starting at 5, 10, 15, and 20 baht, depending on size and weight.

Additionally, for those wanting more, the stall offers ready-to-eat boxed packs priced between 100 and 200 baht, whole durians sold at 140 baht per kilogram, and pure peeled durian flesh at only 450 baht per kilogram—catering to every level of appetite.

Despite minimal profits, the owner, Bee, shared that the idea behind this affordable durian is to let everyone enjoy the fruit within their budget. This especially benefits elderly people who may want just a few pieces to satisfy a craving or families with limited funds who want to bring durian home for their children. The portions are cut to bite-sized pieces for easy eating.

Even though transportation costs and fuel prices have risen, the stall remains committed to affordable prices to help ease consumers’ living expenses, guaranteeing each durian is sweet, fragrant, and up to standard.

Anyone in Lampang or visiting during this time can come support the "affordable durian" stall, open daily from 07:00 to 21:00, serving throughout the durian season.
