Top 5 Common Diseases in 2025: Watch Out for NCDs and Office Syndrome, the Silent Threats to Working Adults

In 2025, the concern goes beyond the economy; a "health crisis" is becoming a costly burden for Thai people. Vimutt Hospital revealed worrying data showing that NCDs and office syndrome top the list of prevalent diseases, reflecting an urban lifestyle more "risky" than expected.

Amid economic volatility and fierce competition, health has often been neglected. Recently, Vimutt Hospital disclosed key health trends for 2025, finding that Thais still suffer mainly from lifestyle-related diseases, especially among working adults and city dwellers.

Top 5 emerging diseases in 2025 signal warnings for working adults.

Statistics on patient cases reveal the five most common diseases treated in Thailand in 2025 are:

  1. Hypertension (high blood pressure).
  2. Diabetes.
  3. High blood cholesterol.
  4. Common cold and respiratory diseases.
  5. Office syndrome.

A major concern is that the top three are chronic non-communicable diseases (NCDs), clearly reflecting the unbalanced lifestyles of Thais, while office syndrome has become a chronic condition for working adults in the digital era.

Fast-paced life and indulgent eating habits fuel the rise of NCDs across the country.

Dr. Suwanit Treemachanuchai, Director of Vimutt Hospital, pointed out that the main cause of the surge in these diseases is the changing social structure in Thailand, especially the "urban lifestyle" that forces people to race against time.

  • Eating habits: reliance on ready-made and processed foods, plus frequent consumption of sugary drinks, are key accelerators of NCDs.
  • Lifestyle: heavy workloads, little rest, lack of exercise, and accumulated stress.
  • Office syndrome: highlighting the health costs for modern workers who sit in front of screens for many hours daily without movement.

Beware of the “silent reaper”: early symptoms are hard to detect.

The danger of the top diseases in 2025 lies in their "silence" at the early stage. Dr. Suwanit warned that hypertension, diabetes, and high cholesterol often show no or minimal symptoms initially, leading many to underestimate them. If untreated, these conditions can cause severe complications and enormous medical expenses in the future. Additionally, threats from PM2.5 dust, unstable weather, and toxic particles directly affect respiratory and allergy conditions. Frequent coughing, sneezing, or chest tightness should not be ignored.

Therefore, annual health check-ups are not a waste but the most worthwhile investment. Early detection increases the chance of recovery and helps maintain strong health to face any economic crisis.
