10 Scout Laws and the Pledge You Should Know, Plus an Easy-to-Remember Scout Law Song

Scout Laws and Regulations that Guide Behavior These are part of the behavioral rules taught in the Thai Scout curriculum, designed to train youth to be beneficial to society, develop discipline, and promote culture and national security. Within this course, there are the 10 Scout Laws the Scout Pledge, as well as a Scout Law song that helps Cub Scouts memorize more easily.

What are the 10 Scout Laws?

The 10 Scout Laws apply to Senior Scouts, Scouts, and Special Scouts, and are mostly used commonly among them. They are as follows:

  • 1. A Scout is trustworthy and honorable.
  • 2. A Scout is loyal to the nation, religion, and the monarchy.
  • 3. A Scout’s duty is to be useful and to help others at all times.
  • 4. A Scout is a friend to all and a sibling to every Scout worldwide.
  • 5. A Scout is courteous and well-mannered.
  • 6. A Scout is kind to animals.
  • 7. A Scout obeys the orders of parents and leaders respectfully.
  • 8. A Scout is cheerful and does not give up in adversity.
  • 9. A Scout is thrifty.
  • 10. A Scout behaves properly in body, speech, and mind.

The 2 Laws of Cub Scouts

The 2 laws for Cub Scouts are as follows:

  • 1. Cub Scouts follow the example of older Scouts.
  • 2. Cub Scouts do not act on their own whims.

Scout Law Song to Aid Memorization

The Scout Law song varies in lyrics and melody but is generally lively and easy to remember to help Scouts sing along and memorize the laws more easily. For example:

“Dew falls and cool breezes in the late night,
Remembering Scout laws to sharpen the mind,
One is honor, two is loyalty,
Three is duty, four is friends,
Five is politeness, six is kindness,
Seven obeys, eight is joyful, no confusion,
Nine is thrift, never poor, ten behaves well in body, speech, and mind.”

The 2 Cub Scout Pledge Points

Before reciting the Scout Laws and Pledge, the phrase “I promise that” is said.

  • 1. I will be loyal to the nation, religion, and the monarchy.
  • 2. I will adhere to the Cub Scout laws and do good for others every day.

The 3 Scout Pledge Points for Scouts, Senior Scouts, and Special Scouts

Before reciting the Scout Laws and Pledge, the phrase “On my honor, I promise that” is said.

  • 1. I will be loyal to the nation, religion, and the monarchy.
  • 2. I will help others at all times.
  • 3. I will follow the Scout Laws.

Scout Mottos for Each Type

Besides the differing laws and pledges by type and age, Scouts also have different mottos as follows:

  • Cub Scouts: Do Your Best
  • Scouts: Be Prepared
  • Senior Scouts: Look Ahead
  • Special Scouts: Service

Scout Laws and Pledges Besides memorizing and following these within Scout groups, the same laws are also used for the Girl Guides of each type, simply replacing the word 'Scout' with 'Girl Guide'.
