Understanding the Kamikaze Drone Cambodia Used in Border Clashes with Thai Military

A report from the 2nd Army Region revealed that Cambodia used kamikaze UAVs in this clash, aiming to locate and destroy Thai military strongholds.

How do kamikaze drones operate?

Kamikaze UAVs are unmanned aerial attack weapons that, once launched, fly over the target area to conduct reconnaissance. They use cameras and GPS to scan and confirm the target to be attacked. Upon identifying the target, the drone dives at high speed and detonates on impact.

Their key feature is self-destruction while destroying the target. They can loiter above the target area for an extended time before deciding to strike. Equipped with warheads and guidance systems, they can accurately hit targets at a lower cost than traditional missiles. They are used in combat to destroy tactical targets such as tanks, vehicles, or critical infrastructure.

Regarding this clash, a report from the 2nd Army Region disclosed that this morning (9 Dec 2025 GMT+7), Cambodian forces launched various weapons, including BM-21 rockets and artillery, alongside bombing drones, into Thai territory around Krasuntok subdistrict. The affected areas included Prasat Ta Kwai, Prasat Ta Muean, Chong Plot Tang, Khao Phra Wihan, Chong Rayi, Phu Ma Khuea, Hill 600, Ban Phum Sirol village 12, Chong An Ma, Chong Bok, Prasat Ta Kwai, and Phlan Yao.

In Krasuntok subdistrict, where Cambodian kamikaze drones heavily struck areas such as Phaya Satban, Chong An Ma, and Hill 561, Thai soldiers were killed due to attacks by bombing drones and kamikaze UAVs in some clash zones, including the Phu Pha Lek operational base and Kantharalak district in Sisaket province.
