Tokyogurl (Tokyo Girl) Tokyogurl is one of the female esports athletes who gained attention from Thai RoV fans following a cheating scandal at the 33rd SEA Games (SEA Games 2025), hosted by Thailand. Previously, Tokyogurl was regarded as one of the skilled female RoV players, known for her confident play style and experience in multiple online tournaments. This earned her a spot on Thailand's national women's RoV esports team before the controversy arose.
Tokyogurl is the esports alias of a well-known female streamer, approximately 30 years old, familiar to Arena of Valor (RoV) fans. She is also a gaming influencer closely watched for her streaming, thanks to her skills in the "carry" role, a crucial position in the game, leading to her selection as a representative athlete for Thailand's national women's team.
The controversy emerged during the RoV competition at the SEA Games on 15 December, marking a major turning point when organizers and officials detected irregularities in the equipment and software used in the match between Thailand and Vietnam.
It is believed that Tokyogurl secretly installed cheating software that allowed a third party to take control of her gameplay. According to international esports competition rules, this is a serious offense that cannot be overlooked. Preliminary decisions led to Tokyogurl's disqualification, and subsequently, the Thai women's RoV team decided to withdraw from the tournament amid widespread criticism.
Later, teammates stated that two days before the competition, some team members noticed unusual behavior from Tokyogurl and reported it to the coach, but Tokyogurl became angry and demanded an apology, forcing the team toproceeddue to the imminent competition date. During the match, it was clear that Tokyogurl's performance had significantly declined compared to her previous online streams.
After the controversy, Tokyogurl posted a statement on social media denying any cheating. She explained she did not intend to cheat but was nervous and panicked during the match, leading to misunderstandings regarding the equipment and software allegations. Regarding flipping the middle finger at the camera, she said it was just playful interaction with a teammate nearby.
Following online backlash, Tokyogurl deactivated her social media accounts to avoid ongoing criticism. Later, Garena announced a lifetime ban on Tokyogurl from all RoV competitions.
This incident not only affected the reputation and career of Tokyogurl but also sparked widespread debate within Thailand's esports community about verification processes and international competition standards. It raised questions about national team selection procedures and the ethics of new athletes, as Tokyogurl's cheating scandal severely damaged the image of female Thai esports players in the eyes of international audiences.
