Last chance for those far from home who want to see fair rules in Thailand—don’t miss out. Today is the final day to register for out-of-province and overseas referendum voting, marking an important step toward “constitutional reform.” Thairath Online has summarized the simple registration process on one page for you.
This referendum is not just about casting a ballot; it is the “first button” in constitutional reform to establish a sustainable and effective democracy. For those tied up with work in another province or living abroad and unable to return to vote at their registered home address, “today is the last day” to register for voting outside their district.
1. In person: At the district or local registrar’s office, or at the embassy or authorized representative during official hours.
2. By mail: The postmark date on the envelope is decisive.
3. Online: Available 24 hours daily; the system closes on 5 Jan 2026 at 23:59 Thailand time.
*Note: Overseas referendum registration may also be accepted via email through embassies.
Many may wonder why the referendum is important. The current constitution’s origins and content have raised questions about its connection to the people. Exercising your right now sends a powerful message that “we want a truly people’s constitution.” Registering for out-of-district voting helps ensure your voice is heard even if you’re away from your hometown.
Registering for out-of-district referendum voting on this last day is the simplest way to protect your basic rights. If you want to see political change through constitutional reform, register before the system closes at midnight.
The referendum will be held alongside the general election on 8 Feb 2026. There is no early referendum voting, only out-of-district voting on that day. If you live far from home and want to participate in both the election and referendum, you must register twice: once for early out-of-district voting on 1 Feb 2026 and again for out-of-district referendum voting on 8 Feb 2026.
Overseas referendum voting will take place at the same time, place, and method as the overseas election, which will not be on 8 Feb 2026 but mostly scheduled for late January 2026. If you register for both election and referendum at a polling station, you will be able to vote for both the House of Representatives and the referendum on the designated date. If you choose postal voting for both, you will receive an envelope containing three ballots: two election ballots and one referendum ballot. Once received, you must promptly return all ballots to the embassy or consulate by the specified deadline to ensure your votes are counted.
