In an era where the definition of “beauty” goes beyond facial results to include the brand's responsibility to the world, L'Oréal Group reinforces its vision “Create the Beauty that Moves the World” through its intensive sustainability mission, L’Oréal for the Future, which serves as a compass guiding the organization toward its 2030 goals.
This initiative is more than a branding campaign; it is a business transformation grounded in the Planetary Boundaries concept, which respects the ecological limits of the planet. To ensure business growth does not deplete natural resources, L’Oréal focuses on addressing urgent issues across three key areas: climate crisis response, nature protection, and promoting resource circularity.
By 2025, the midway point of its roadmap, L’Oréal has demonstrated tangible success as the only company worldwide to earn an “A” rating from CDP for nine consecutive years, covering climate management, water security, and forest conservation.
The core of this transformation starts upstream. In 2024, L’Oréal achieved 97% renewable energy use across its global operations, with the SAPMENA region (South Asia-Pacific, Middle East, and North Africa) reaching 100% renewable energy use at all 23 sites. This success was realized through context-specific solutions, such as hydropower in Indonesia and solar and wind energy in India.
L’Oréal has also elevated product development through Green Science, emphasizing the use of bio-based or mineral ingredients that are renewable alternatives to depleting resources. The goal is for over 75% of ingredients to be natural or recycled by 2030, under strict ethical standards throughout the supply chain.
In packaging, L’Oréal drives change through the 3Rs principle (Reduce, Replace, Recycle) to foster a circular economy. The concept of “luxury” is paired with a “Refill Revolution,” exemplified by Prada Paradoxe perfume bottles and Lancôme Génifique serums, which significantly reduce packaging weight and waste. Additionally, L’Oréal promotes transparent disclosure of environmental impacts to empower consumers to make environmentally responsible choices.
Ultimately, L’Oréal has moved beyond merely reducing negative impacts to creating positive effects by restoring the planet and society, such as through the L’Oréal Fund for Nature Regeneration, which focuses on ecosystem restoration, and the L’Oréal Fund for Women, supporting vulnerable women. L’Oréal believes true beauty arises only when the environment is healthy and society is equitable. Thus, L’Oréal for the Future is not just a business goal but a “commitment” to create beauty that sustainably drives the world forward.
